The location is good. The place is a large house with a nice looking restaurant. The food is good. The Internet works very well. The people are friendly. But the rooms are disappointing. I was very surprised by the poor quality of the room. I was in a single room and in a double. The single did remember me a cell in a monastery. It was basic, the quality of the bed was horrible and it was cold. Next day I changed to a double. The room size was nearly the same, but with a larger bed. The bed was a bit better, but the quality was basic. It can be improved with a bit of investment, and I would make the rooms a bit friendlier and not so cold in temperature as well as in feeling.

I came here on reading a recommendation on the "Guide du routard" for Brazil. This is an old posada, which is rare in Jardim Paulista. It's close to everything: within Jardim Paulista, and 30min walking from the centre (or else take the metro), which is not a lot in such a large city. It costs around 100EUR per night, which, compared to other hotels in this neighbourhood, is low or standard (plus, the breakfast is included and very good). The rooms are no more than OK (it's winter now, I guess in summer the lack of air conditioning could be a problem), on the small side, but clean. The two real problems are: (i) the noise from the traffic on the nearby Avenida Reboucas (practically a motorway); (ii) the cold sifting in from the huge gaps in the windows fixtures, which, on top of the gaps, do not even close properly. Both problems could be settled by changing these very old windows with double or triple-glazing ones.

It would take so little to make this a great hotel. It's just a shame that the owners have chosen to save money on something like this.

I travel to Sao Paulo regularly on business, and this is my favorite place to stay. The rooms are spread out over two stories of a large old colonial house in Jardins, and surround a small court yard in back. They are basic, clean, and vary in size. The bathrooms are adequate, although I have very occasionally had problems with hot water. Rooms at the front do get a lot of street noise, so bring ear plugs if you are sensitive.

There is a cafe/restaurant in the front of the guest house, with tall windows that open on nice days. It serves free breakfast, which, while it doesn't offer the variety of some larger hotels, is of high quality. The cafe also serves other meals at reasonable prices.

Free internet is included and is of good quality throughout the pousada. There is no fitness center. While the price may seem a bit steep for a guest house, in my experience it is a good value for Sao Paulo, which is ridiculously expensive overall. I am baffled by a few of the negative reviews on TripAdvisor - there is nothing about this place that is squalid, rude, etc. - travelers who are looking for a guest house rather than a luxury hotel experience won't go wrong.

In the middle of Jardim Paulista, to my opinion the most relaxed area of Sao Paulo, we found Dona Zilah. A home where you can stay as long as you like. The best food, organic, healthy, extremely nice and helpful staff. For us it is a perfect basis to go to the CoolTravel Forest, one hour from Sao Paulo to the North.
