“A reasonable option in exy Sao Paulo”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 31 May 2009

We stayed one night, arriving in Sao Paulo late and due to leave early the next morning, and booked via a discount late bookings website which made it good value.
The room was tired and uninspiring but it did have a good size wardrobe (not that we used it), a kitchenette, a/c and clean ensuite. Breakfast the next morning was great. The area (Jardins) seemed nice, not that we had time to explore it.

“Great little find - would stay there again”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 10 May 2009

Was hesitant booking this room since it didn't have a lot of reviews - but was pleasantly surprised.

The area (Jardins Paulista) is very safe even at night - although i don't recommend going for a walk in SP when it's dark out.

It is located next to a cute little grocery store and next to an AMAZING bakery where i had breakfast every morning and an even more amazing pizzeria - a must go.

The staff - especially at the restaurant was very friendly. I only had sandwiches there but they were very good & service was quick.

Front desk staff could learn to smile a bit more and barely spoke english (which isn't uncommon in SP). Free internet in the rooms was also a nice touch. The hotel has a very cool rooftop terrace which is perfect to take photos of the city.

For the negative - i found tiny ants in the bathroom, you could barely see them. I informed the front desk staff and they sent someone to clean the bathroom with bleach which really didnt do anything.

The bed sheets and pillows I was first provided with looked and felt old. I had them replaced which didn't seem like a problem.

Overall, this hotel offers very good value in one of the best, more central areas of Sao Paulo. I will book this hotel again if I ever return to SP.

“Cute, nice, comfortable hotel”

My boyfriend and I arrived at this hotel January 18th, 2007 and we were pleased by the taxi ride to the hotel. The taxi driver was courteous and helped us with our bags and so did the doorman. This hotel is located in The Jardins, which is a classy, clean, trendy area in Sao Paulo. You're minutes away from the popular Paulista Av.

Nice restaurants, groceries, and shops within the vicinity. Walking distance to anything you may want/need.

The rooms aren't big, but good enough. Very clean and quiet. The hotel personele speak English and have good personalities. I fell in love with the shower. I looked forward to a shower at night and in the morning.

Breakfast had an okay variety of food. It wasn't anything spectacular.

I'm trying to think of something bad, but I can't. We had absolutely no problems with this hotel and it's staff.

  • Liked — It's location. Accessible to almost all my needs
  • Disliked — The minibar wasn't free

“A Great Value for Budget Travelers”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 9 October 2006

The Tulip Inn is located on Rua Jose Maria Lisboa 1/2 block off Rua Pampalona in the heart of Sao Pulo´s wonderful Jardins neighborhood. Great shpping and restaurants abound in the area including several well regarded Pizzarias. Internet access abounds in the neighborhood during the week. Access is more spotty on the weekends.

The Tulip Inn is Golden Tulip´s discount entry into the Jardins market. It doesn´t compare in terms of amenties with those of its sister Golden Tulip Hotel the Paulista Plaza. But, its daily rate is substantially cheaper than that of the Paulista Plaza. On my trip, the Paulista Plaza cost around $80 per night while the Tulip Inn cost around $42 per night.

In comparison, the room was probably 75% of the size of the rooms at Paulista Plaza. Both had TVs with full cable. The Paulista Plaza had a room stereo which the Tulip Inn did not. Not a deal breaker for me as a traveler

The Paulista Plaza had a full bath with a soaking tub while the Tulip Inn had only a (very nice) marble tiled shower stall. I will note that the Tulip Inn´s shower had an incredible soaker shower head that was an absolute dream to jump under every morning.

Both the Tulip Inn and the Paulista Plaza require the guest to use his room key to operate the electricity in the room. The hallways of the Paulista Plaza are always lighted while the hallways of the Tulip Inn operate lights on movement sensors. Again, no dealbreaker here. But, sonme may be uncomfortable with that.

The Paulista Plaza offers a great restaurant and phenomenal breakfast while the Tulip Inn ofers a more scaled down though quite sufficient breakfast in the mornings. In as much as there were so many good restaurants nearby, I didn´t partake of any meals other than breakfast at the Tulip Inn.

The neighborhood around the tulip Inn is truly that, a neighborhood. There you will have the chance to live as Paulistas who are fortunate enough to live here do daily. It is no tourist trap. There is a small, friendly grocery next to the hotel where you can buy bottled water and snacks at very reasonable prices.

The Paulista Plaza offers a full gym with sauna and steam room as well as a pool. The Tulip Inn offers an open solarium on its roof for sunning. But, it doesn´t have a pool or exercise room.

The staff at Paulista Plaza was multi-lingual and very helpful. With the staff at the Tulip Inn, we struggled between my broken Portugese and their broken English. But, we always managed to communicate what we needed to. The staff at the Tulip Inn was very helpful and seemed quite interested in learning about me and where I was from.

The Bed at the Tulip Inn wasn´t nearly as comfortable as that at the Paulista Plaza (which was luxurious). But, it was sufficient and comfortable enough to accomodate a good night´s sleep. The maid service was excellent and efficient.

I will have no qualms staying at the Tulip Inn in the future. In my opinion, its strengths are:

Price

Great Neighborhood

Good Shopping and Restaurants Nearby

“A great place for little money”

I recently stayed at the Tulip Inn Interative Flat. It is located five blocks from Paulista Ave which is one of the main streets in Brazil and has the Metro Stop Trianon Massp. The hotel offers a continental buffet breakfast with eggs, fruit, pastries, juice, coffee etc. The staff is friendly and helpful, even though some do not speak English very well. The rooms are small, but clean with a good TV with many channels. The bathroom is functional and was very clean, there is even a window in the bathroom which may be opened. The air condtioning works well. The lobby is spacious but not overly large. The are many restaurants in the area, I can recommend the "General" an excellent Italian place for dinner. One order of food will feed two people easily. There is a nice grocery store next to the hotel, a 24 hr drug store on the corner and a great deli and bakery nearby. I paid USD $50.00 a night, which is approximately R$99.00 in Brazillian currency. I would give this hotel a solid 3plus star rating. I have already made reservations for my return in August. I highly recommend it.
