“Good stay”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 29 January 2012

We booked this hotel last minute and were happily surprised. The hotel was a 3 minute walk to the metro station, plenty of restaurants and a grocery store near by. There were a few local shops very close and a mall (Paulista) about ten minutes walk away. The room looked a little dated but not bad, it was suite with a separate living room and a kitchenette, which had a microwave, sink, and refrigerator. The front desk were most helpful. The gym was pitiful with one broke down treadmill and a small weight area. There was a small pool. The hotel did not do money exchange, but citibank and hsbc were not far.

“Terrible!!! Bad hotel! The worst MERCURE I have stayed!!!!”
1 of 5 stars Reviewed 12 December 2011

Negative points:
Non soundprofing windows.
Horrible noise air conditioner.
Rooms need to be reformed. Carpet causes bad smells.
Breakfast was poor, another negative point.
Hair dryer didnt work very well.
And mirrows were broken.
Expensive - poor cost benefit.

The hotel belongs to a chain with better hotels in the city.
However, this one is the worst I have stayed, due to the non soundproofing windows and the horrible noise air conditioner.
The rooms need to be reformed, due to the carpet that causes bad smells.
Besides, the breakfast also was a negative point.
The neighborhood is very noisy, making it too difficult to sleep if you stay in the front rooms (Vergueiro Street).
All other subjects follows the standard for this chain: cleaness, cortesy, etc.
I dont recommend this hotel to a friend. There are better options in São Paulo.

“Friendly, comfortable, surprising!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 16 August 2011

Not having visited Sao Paulo previously we did not know how vast this city is. We arrived by bus and had no idea where we were and chose a Mercure Hotel out of the visitors' book. We were taken for a ride by the taxi driver (don't pay more than 30 Real) but arrived safely at our chosen hotel which happened to be booked solid, the concierge advised Paraiso was within our budget and included breakfast. Arriving at the Paraiso Mercure we discovered one of the reception staff had spent 3 years in Australia so communicating was not a problem ... in fact all the staff at this hotel were very friendly and as helpful as they could be. Our twin room contained a separate bedroom with 2 beds and a good-sized sitting room with desk, balcony and kitchenette (incl. cutlery, dinnerware and microwave). The sofa and chairs were in good condition, the mini-bar was well-stocked and the TV was on a turntable to the bedroom if required. One computer is available in the lobby (15 Real/hour). A good breakfast is available in a sunny courtyard/room. Explore the top floor (gym and pool) for great photo opportunities. Next door to the hotel (turn right) was a small restaurant with really good food; keep walking (veering slightly left) for a few blocks and you will reach the shopping precinct. This area is quite safe to walk around at night but turn left out the hotel door and you'll be heading into unsafe territory (so we were advised). One thing to watch out for in Brazil is the bottled water - ensure it is labelled 'agua mineral natural'.
