I was very impressed with the Mercure Sao Paulo Downtown. So much so that I ended up staying five nights instead of the originaly planned one. I give it top marks in all respects: location, facilities, ammenities, staff etc. The hotel is very modern and everything is in excellent shape. Very confortable beds and pillows, working desk, minibar, electronic safe, three telephones in the room, TV with huge selection of international channels, remote-controlled air conditioning unit (ultra silent), great water pressure in the bathroom (no bathtub though). The buffet breakfest, plentiful and delicious, costs only USD 6 (free on weekends) and is served in a beaultiful room adjascent to the well appointed lobby. Business center has three computer workstations with internet access available for USD 5 per hour. The hotel also has an indoor pool and a gym, which I did not visit. Room service is available 24hrs (I ordered it every night and it was great - try the croque monsieur). Very efficient and friendly staff. Last but not least the hotel is right in downtown Sao Paulo, 50 meters from Praca da Republica metro and bus stops. Great public transport connections to anywhere in Sao Paulo. The hotel also provides free shuttle service to a nearby shopping mall during weekdays. All in all great value for USD 45 per night.
