I want everyone to know, first of all that I am not a young backpacker.
My reason for staying here was not simply because of the fantastic reviews
already written. That was besides the point, It seems that prices really in-
flated like crazy in Brazil recently, and hotels seemed to be outlandishly ex-
pensive. So I thought that maybe I would get my own room ( ensuite ) in a
backpacker joint. I did this a few years ago in Natal, Brazil, and it did work out
well. It was also a good way to meet other people.
Boy was that a great decision! The room was up in the attic..simple ,clean,
spartan. but a good double bed with a great view of the the Lagoa, and pretty
neighbourhood houses. The ensuite bathroom was large, spotlessly clean ,and
great functioning shower with nice hot water.
But now for the plusses: First the breakfasts were great and the food copious.
Secondly, a cook came in every day and signed up people to a wonderful buffet
of a variety of cuisines-one night Italian ,the next night Indonesian, the next night
Brazilian etc. and all for a pittance. Thirdly, the great bar used an honour system
and the drinks were cheap( no booze allowed in the rooms) and this enhanced
the sociability of all the guests. Fourthly, daily activities and nightly activities were
constantly planned- during the day an organised trip to a remote island or beach,
and at night ,transportation to a samba show or a forro show etc.-thus more sociability
enhanced among the guests. Fifthly, for those into self catering,a great big kitchen
with great facilities. Sixthly, free internet,free wi-fi, a nice little pool,and well-trimmed
grounds( all within good walking distance to the main shops in town)
Last but not least, the kindness, warmth, and great informative ability,of Caillo,
his sister Marillia, and the rest of the wonderful staff, made my few-days stay in
Florianapolis a wonderful, interesting, and memorable experience.
