I'm an American living in Brazil and we've stayed at a number of pousadas throughout the country in our 18 months here. Pousada do Atoba has by far the most friendly people of any we've visited. We felt part of the family from day one. Aline was extremely helpful in calling restaurants, making recommendations and just making us feel at home, and the rest of the family was great as well.
The pousada itself is well situated (5 min walk down the hill to the beach and at the end of the road so it's far from the chaos of Ingleses) and clean and comfortable with a full Brazilian breakfast every morning. I would definitely recommend Pousada do Atoba to anyone looking to stay on the north part of the island.
A couple of tips about the island itself: rent a car -- it's worth it to explore the various sides and there's a lot of variety in the various beaches/towns. And pay a visit to Santo Antonio de Lisboa and Sambaqui on the west coast--great sleepy towns on the water with good food.
