I recently stayed at the Ibis, last time i used Ibis was in Antwerp and Amsterdam and both experiences were positive. This was no exception. For a budget brand they certainly ensure their staff are well trained, polite, well groomed and pretty much everything went as well as could be expected. The staff were exceptionally pleasant and helpful. It was during a busy time so the only small issue was having to wait often what seemed a long time to get some service at reception. The reception helped us with a car rental "Best car" close to the hotel and everything went very smoothly and with good prices. Breakfast was always reliable and the front desk helped us order dinner one night from Chef Waldemar. Caroline at front desk was especially helpful, the breakfast staff were great and the car valet broke into a canter every time they got the slip to get a car. Luckily i speak Spanish and understand a small amount of Portuguese enough to get by and at Ibis staff seemed more capable in english and spanish than almost anywhere else we went that whole five days. If you don't speak either Spanish or Portuguese or have great hand signals you may have a tough time in Brazil. The island itself was wonderful and we loved every minute of our short stay. You feel safe everywhere on the island and even TAM the local airline provided great service. We went to other hotels where colleagues were staying for twice the price and happy with our choice. Rooms were always clean, everything worked. On a return visit i would choose Ibis over others in the town and there were many choices. Plan to spend at least 4 nights on the island to get the full benefit of what there is to see and do. We went from north to south east to west and saw pretty much all there was to see. Plan on having a bigger budget than if you go elsewhere in South America, Brazil and especially Florianapolis is expensive.
