“I want to live ski in ski out”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 7 February 2011

We had a great time staying here. We are very avid skiers and have been all over the place this year, so far this was the most fun we had. If you've never been, GT is very small and quaint, everything you need right at the base. You won't use your car the entire time. The skiing was decent, if you are lucky enough to get a clear day use it to ski everywhere and get your bearings for when the fog rolls in. Very minimal rooms, no fridge or microwave. The best part by far was having the pool and hot tub to ourselves for the entire first night and a good portion of the second night. But Friday was over run by annoying kids their horrible parents (kids really ruin everything, if you have kids and read any of my reviews please pick a different vacation destination). The other reviews arn't lying when they say it's loud, the choice to use wood in the lodge's construction over cement was a bad one, thumping boots echo all day. The snow removal equipment was loud too but what can you do. Also, everyone working at the resort was so nice and helpful (except whoever stole my ballcap from the trap bar...). It was a world class destination ski vacation at a great value. We would come back.

“Best Affordable Slopeside Yet”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 16 December 2010

I found some of the reviews gave me pause and I was pleasantly surprised by the accommodations. This isn't my first affordable slopeside lodging but this is the best among them. Grand Targhee is about the surroundings not the accommodations, which is why I visited, but the bed was comfortable and the pictures on the website show the appointment more outdated than it is. There are places in the room to put on and store your equipment, the carpets and linoleum is heavy duty and well worn. Don't expect to sleep past 7, the snowplow will ensure that, unless you have earplugs. The tiny cracks in the tub I imagine make it unsanitary for bath, it could use a reglazing. The truth is, I've found worse comfort for the money and the recreation can be unbeatable here. I would suggest a stay on the second floor, I stayed in room 212 and it had the added advantages of not being near the stairs and having only 1 next door neighbor (same with rooms 213), for those floors are creaky and the interior walls are thin. They have a decent coffee maker (without the carafe) and decent coffee in the room which was real convenient.

“Great Budget Slopeside Option”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 8 December 2010

Stayed here last ski season (early March) and it was perfect! As another review noted, we weren't really there for the room...

The room was basic, the walls were too thin...I know way more about the issues of the family in the next room than I want...the bed was good, and it was a perfect spot to stay for skiers who want to stay slopeside on a budget. For apres ski, the Trap bar was perfect. Good music and the people were skiers/boarders from all over the world.

Overall great value and a perfect spot to hole-up for 3 or 4 days of Targhee powder.

“You're not here for the room!”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 29 July 2008

We've stayed at Grand Targhee twice now and love this resort. To be totally fair, the rooms aren't the greatest. It's basically a motel room with an upgraded super-comfy bed. Which, is just what you're looking for when you check in to a place like Grand Targhee: a comfy place to crash after spending all of your energy outdoors. We haven't been up during the winter, but in summer it is reminiscent of your favorite camp, with outdoor activities galore to keep you occupied throughout the day (archery, climbing wall, mountain biking, swiming, hiking, frisbee golf, horseback riding...).

The staff is extremely nice, helpful, and laid back. On multiple occasions they have gone out of their way to make our stay more enjoyable.. even going so far as to.. gAsP.. bend the rules! (Unlike corporate chain establishments). We'll be back another summer to enjoy the great views, peaceful, secluded atmosphere, and the fantastic time that we have up in Wydaho!

“Great atmosphere in smaller resort but LOUD @ the lodge”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 8 January 2007

I really loved the feel of this smaller ski resort. The food was great at the steakhouse, people that worked here were very friendly, and they get tons of powder snow. Only complaint was we stayed at the lodge and it really really LOUD, and we are a young couple that normally doesn't mind, but for the price we paid we expected more relaxation. People were stomping about the second floor and stair ways at all hours, we are talking rolling their luggage up and down the stairs, stomping out their shoes, at 3-4 am, you can hear every move anyone makes in the lodge and apparently they were allowing people from a bus check in at this hour ...then the snow plow started plowing the parking lot at 4:30am , pushing the snow right to our room window beeping the whole time. We proabably would not stay at the lodge again, maybe one of the other on site locations are quiter.....
Another thing is the room was quite old and aging, bathroom wasn't that clean, etc.
We will try the ski resort again, but like I said no more Grand Targhee lodge for us.

  • Liked — Quaint atmosphere, great scene.
  • Disliked — LOUD
  • Tips/Secrets — If you must stay here, try the second floor unless you can sleep through a war.
