I was meant to be at the Novotel next door, but due to some confusion with including credit card information in the reservation (thanks for a clear process, Accor!), my reservation was canceled, and everything was fully sold due to a conference. They were going to try and send me to Ipanema, but I had booked a room in the center of town for a reason. Anyway, after I raised a stink, they "found" me a room in the Ibis. Well, it is what it is! The room served its purpose - relatively clean, somewhat comfortable (minimalistic?), and I guess it was acceptable for the price. That said, the facilities are quite limited, the wifi is AWFUL, the restaurant is extremely slow and not very good, but I guess that's to be expected for the budget price.
I do need to give a shout-out to Julia in reception. In fact, I was pleased with service on check-in and check out and that was an upside. Also, if you need to be in the center of Rio, the location is very convenient, pity the food options at the hotel are lousy.
Next time I will be sure to put in my credit card details so I don't miss out on the Novotel, hopefully a better option than the Ibis.
