“you get what you pay for”

I was meant to be at the Novotel next door, but due to some confusion with including credit card information in the reservation (thanks for a clear process, Accor!), my reservation was canceled, and everything was fully sold due to a conference. They were going to try and send me to Ipanema, but I had booked a room in the center of town for a reason. Anyway, after I raised a stink, they "found" me a room in the Ibis. Well, it is what it is! The room served its purpose - relatively clean, somewhat comfortable (minimalistic?), and I guess it was acceptable for the price. That said, the facilities are quite limited, the wifi is AWFUL, the restaurant is extremely slow and not very good, but I guess that's to be expected for the budget price.

I do need to give a shout-out to Julia in reception. In fact, I was pleased with service on check-in and check out and that was an upside. Also, if you need to be in the center of Rio, the location is very convenient, pity the food options at the hotel are lousy.

Next time I will be sure to put in my credit card details so I don't miss out on the Novotel, hopefully a better option than the Ibis.

“Pure Ibis. Be ready to miss supposedly usual comfort in hotels”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed 10 November 2011

Noise (both of machinery and planes landing/taking off. Miserable open room for clothes (per the picture you can see how I got my shirts and jackets ¿hanged? No hair dryer. On the other hand, well located, cheap and with breakfast better then you'd expected in this brand. Staff very service oriented, and very professional despite they're flaws they can't solve.

“Good for a quick passage with car!”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 1 November 2011

I spent the weekend on the hotel, the main touristic points are a little far away, but if you have rent a car is a great place, there are parking slot in front of the hotel (so no need to pay for it), is very safe because is in near a military area, and extremely close to the airport, so you could arrive by foot. The hotel ain't in the airplane routes so was very comfortable to sleep, the room was very large (compared to other ibis) but i didn't like the pillows. The breakfast is so-so, but the localization don't offer many bakeries or cafes.
Conclusion: If i didn't rented a car i would prefer to stay at some hotel at copacabana.

“Thin walls and poor breakfast”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 18 October 2011

In this hotel you can easily hear everything from rooms next door or on the floor above. No sound isolation at all. Rooms are clean and there is affordable wifi even if some rooms have worse connection. Locations is conveniently close to domestic airport and taxi from international Rio airport is about 45R$ if you book in advance. Not many restaurants nearby and forget the hotel restaurant. Take a taxi to Butofogo or Copacabana if you want a good meal.

“Good for Business, but below Ibis standarts”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 9 September 2011

Stayed there to go to a business meeting, and was fortunate to take only one taxi ride, coming from Galeão Airport, since I couldn't find a flight to Santos Dumont in a decent time from my hometown.

On the other hand, for the rest of my staying, I could go walking everywhere, even to catch my flight back home, that I booked to Santos Dumont airport, that is 300m away from the hotel, reachable by a 5 minutes walk through one block and the pedestrian way, above the road, to the Airport, that is safe enough to walk with your laptop during the day or early evening.

As for the hotel itself, I felt a little disappointed, when I compared it to other Ibis (Montevideo and Amsterdam City West) I've stayed before. I've already expected to pay more than twice in Rio than in Montevideo, and only a little less than in Amsterdam, but at least I hoped to have the same services and room standart.

If the room is better than in Amsteram, for its minibar, precious in longer trips, the bathroom makes a huge negative difference. At Ibis Santos Dumont, it's bigger, but so much older and stained on the roof and walls that made me feel unconfortable, also the soap, shampoo and bathroom goods were incomplete and insufficient.

The recepction team was friendlier than it uses to be in Rio hotels, but not as nice as in Amsterdam or Montevideo. And they didn't tell, even when I asked, that it would be possible for me to pay a half-day price if I left until 6pm. So I stayed unecessarly until 7pm, only to be told, at check-out, that I could have payed less.

The breakfest is nice, better than in Amsterdam, since brazilian standarts for breakfest are much better than in Europe, but the food served at the restaurant at night was greasy...

Overall It would deserve a higher grade (perhaps 4 out of 5) if not for the bad information given at check-in...
