“Almost nothing good to mention about this hotel”
1 of 5 stars Reviewed 27 January 2012

All previous reviews are correct. Seems like nobody from the stuff really care about customers. It's only surviving due it's position between Copacabana and Ipanema and low prices compare to other hotels in this area. If you don't want to spoil you holiday and your budget is not very tight, stay in other hotels. Try to avoid this one.
About "free internet" - it's free, but it will not work in your room, you have to come down to lobby to be able to use internet. I made a huge mistake going for the price and booking this hotel.

best thing about the hotel is the location .. copanema as they call it .. very convenient to enjoy both ipanema and copacabana just walking .. hotel is good value for money since hotel prices in Rio have been skyrocketing .. rooms are not that modern and big but they are clean . stuff kind and helpful. Standard breakfast (in line with other hotles visited in Brazil) .

“Hotel Cristal is very good! if you are a 4 or 5 star hotel person don't stay here!”

After reading all the ugly review on this hotel I was not sure what I would encounter, so I took with me name of other hotels; to our sorprise as soon as the taxi stop at their door help came running to open the door of taxi and take our bags, the place is clean, the desk people at all time were very helpful, (what do you mean they were not honestly nice?) give them a break! fake or not they were very nice! internet was plenty good and I have high speed at my home. our room and bathroom were very clean, the street noise was not a problem, we stay March 3 and since we like them so well we booked with them March 10,11,12 and cancel other arraingments we had. Brekfast very good, all kind of fruits, breads, cheese etc.
I feel that if you want to stay on a 4 or 5 star hotel you should be in one of them and pay the price for, this hotel was a nice hotel and should not have the reviews that have.
Do not help any one that is traveling on a budget to be mislead. besides de LOCATION is great!.
Thank you to all at the Cristal Palace specially Rogerio, and hope your hotel get better review because you deserve that!
THANK YOU AGAIN

“Working on making it better”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 8 April 2011

The hotel is nice, in a good location just one block from ipanema beach and copacabana.
They have some problems but the new manager is working now to fix the problems. People there are very loving for that price! Normal in Rio hotels are very expensive!!This hotel has good prices and a good location! What we need more in a city like Rio when everywhere and everything are so spensive!

“Its really not that bad..........”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 25 March 2011

There seemed to be a lot of negative comments about the Hotel CP, but the location and price won us over in the end.

Yes, the hotel is a little dated, but that just gives it a bit of character. Yes it can be argued that its expensive for what you get, but then you need to compare it to other hotels in the same area not to what your used to in other countries as Rio is expensive.

Yes, everything isn't a crisp white anymore and there's a bit of mould in the bathroom, but the rooms are clean and I was suprised quite roomy. The A/C is seeming like all Brazilian hotels, being older and noisey.

I didn't find the location particularly noisey and slept very well with the windows open.

The staff were all very helpful, but I didn't feel their friendliness was genuine.

Breakfast on the roof was pretty good.

There is internet, which struggles a bit in the evening if everyone is online.

The location is ideal for the beaches and buses.

Unless your in Rio for a long stay or you like to spend a lot time in the hotel, its fine.
