“Cute hostel in fab location!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 2 February 2012

Mango Tree is a great hostel in a fantastic location - literally 2 seconds from the infamous Ipanema Beach. We had the presidential suite which was fantastic - clean spacious room and showeroom with a wall TV. There was also free internet and a cute little bar out back. The staff are really friendly and it's not at all loud. Would highly recommend.

Room Tip: The presidential suite for privacy and a little luxury for a hostel

“Stayed here over New Years 2011/12”

Lovely hostel, clean, good atmosphere and a nice breakfast.

The staff are very helpful, the location is very good, with the beach, restaurants, ATMs and shops very close, and the area is safe too.

For New Years (and Carnaval), this place is quite expensive, but everything in Rio is for these times, so if you want to come at these times, this place is well worth the money. They even put on a Capoeira demonstration at the hostel for us, which was amazing.

“Friendly, reasonably priced, excellent location and free internet”

I stayed here in July 2011. Had an amazing time in Rio and especially at the Mango tree. I stayed in the dormitory and the private room. Both were excellent. The staff were friendly and always willing to help. Having stayed in almost all levels of accommodation in Rio - from the Sheraton down to another hostel, this was definitely the best in terms of a middle ground. It was clean and I felt safe at all times. Posto 9 is just 2-3 mins walk away, other amenities like restaurants and banks and shops are all nearby. There is a bus stop right outside too, the metro station is about another 5- 7 min walk. You really feel like you are a part of the community as it is located in a residential area. As always with hostels, there was a great atmosphere and there was plenty of opportunity to meet other travellers. If you are expecting luxury, this is not it, but if you can deal with clean and simple decor with a homely and relaxed vibe this could be the place for you.

Room Tip: Choose the private rooms, otherwise in the dorms ask for the rooms with 5 beds and not 8 because tho...

“Fantastic Place”

The Mango Tree is the nicest hostel in Rio we found (and we stayed at a fair few). Large rooms with lockable storage lockers. Clean, new and well maintained. Beautiful bathrooms. A large well stocked kitchen, internet, TV room and lovely outdoor dining area. Very close to Ipanema and some lovely local restaurants and bar. Hammocks in the garden area for relaxing and a bar if you fancy a drink. Not to loud or rowdy but a great place to meet other travelers. The staff were incredibly informative and helpful and the security was the best of any hostel I've stayed in in my year travel. I recommend this place very highly.

“Fun place to meet friendly travellers”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 19 December 2011

I stayed here for two nights, booked a bed in a 6person dorm. It took the cab quite some time to find the place as there was no sign outside. The staffs were helpful. I arrived very early in the morning and could not check-in until noon but I was brought to rest in the living room. The staff said I could help myself with the breakfast served. The room was simple but clean. I was given a locker with padlock to lock my belongings. Bathroom and toilets were clean. Hot shower was available. The best thing about the Mango Tree is it is just a block away from Ipanema Beach. There were also many shops, restaurants, banks, kiosks just around the corner. It is definitely a fun place to stay and I enjoyed meeting other friendly travellers from all around the world.
