We stayed at the Fasano Rio for three days in mid-December, 2011. The hotel is, by far, Rio's best right now, superbly located right on Ipanema Beach. The area is safe and boasts a wide range of good restaurants within walking distance, and the beachfront sidewalk is perfect for guests who want to run, jog or walk--or stop for a fresh coconut water-- any time of day.
The hotel is designed by Philippe Starck and his use of mirrors and witty statement pieces is charming and looks beautiful. We stayed in an oceanfront suite on the 7th floor and had a view to die for. The hotel's highlight is the rooftop pool and bar area , which offers a stunning panorama of Guanabara Bay including the iconic "Two Brothers" mountains. For an unforgettable hour, enjoy a well-made caipirinha at the poolside bar and watch the sun set over one of the most beautiful views in the world. The daytime pool service is also great, and you may be tempted to spend your whole day lounging on the comfortable chaises and enjoying the well-designed pool. We did, and found that our poolside lunches, including sliders, salads, cod fish balls and fries with a cold beer, were always perfectly prepared.
Fasano Rio's breakfast is truly exceptional, featuring an array of fresh local fruits, charcuterie, smoked salmon, and breads and pastries from the buffet as well as all kinds of egg dishes and any fresh juice you can think of. My wife asked for honeydew with ginger and I had Acai with banana, and our friendly waiter, Sergio, suggested a terrific tangerine juice . The wait staff was professional, friendly and really aimed to please.
In terms of hotel services, the concierge's suggestions for restaurants and outings was always first class. We also used the hotel car service twice and found it very reasonable and professional. Guest services was phenomenal: Raphael Prior's desire to make his guests happy is in his DNA. The total experience was unforgettable and we hope to be back soon.
Room Tip: Worth paying extra for the ocean side view
