If you come to Rio make sure you stay at the Rio Guesthouse. The owner Marta, is a lovely lady who makes you feel very at home and has lots of information and tips to share with you.I travelled with my son and we stayed in the Citrane room which had comfortable beds, a great shower and good air con. The views from the penthouse are the best in Rio, overlooking Copacabana Beach. It is in an ideal location, 5 min walk to Ipanema,bus stops and the metro. Rio felt safe, we had no problems and is a great holiday destination with lots to do. We hope one day to come back and would definately reccommend Rio Guesthouse as a place to stay rather than the rip off hotel prices in and around Rio.

I didn't spend time at the guesthouse but just to inform you that for Carnival period (I know that it's high season there, but still...this is quite undecent) Marta, the owner, wanted to charge me RS8800 per week, which is USD 4970 alias USD710 per night, which for a guest house seems rather high...

We had a great time in Rio for NYE! Staying @ the Rio Guest House was awesome! The location was perfect...right on Copacabana Beach and situated within easy walking distance of Ipanema. The owner, Marta, is a true gem...she's passionate about Rio and it's culture and willing to share all of her knowledge and experiences. She's very affectionate as well which caught me off guard initially, but we appreciated how concerned she was about making us comfortable. It was very much like staying with a wealthy auntie. We don't normally choose B&Bs so it was a very nice 1st time and it helped a great deal in a city like Rio. Marta gave us great restaurant, shopping & sight seeing suggestions. She hosted a NYE party that was a great alternative to the massive beach party since it rained. The balcony has gorgeous views of the beach. We were able to hear all of the live music, watch the crowds, eat and drink without dealing with the crowds, getting wet or having to use a porta-potty. The traditional Brazilian dishes were wonderful. The only thing I would have wanted added to the party were Caipirinhas! The building is secured with a 24hr doorman who was helpful with getting taxis in the evening since we don't speak any useful Portuguese. We stayed in the Emerald room. It was very comfortable & clean. It did not have a view, but is situated in the back so we didn't hear any of the other guests. I am super picky about bathrooms and I was very happy with the modern, spotless in suite bathroom. All of the other guest seemed happy with their rooms as well. If we return to Rio, we'll definitely stay here again. We took a great day tour with Neyla who we researched prior to our visit. Marta recommended her as well.

My partner and I said at Rio Guest House for 5 night just before XMAS and had a great time. The owner Marta is a lovely lady, so helpful and nothing was too much trouble. The 'Apartment' is huge, so spacious and airy and is just AMAZING like something out of a Hollywood movie. We had a lovely view from the top floor overlooking Copacabana Beach and was a short walk from Ipanema and all the buzy shops and cafes. We had a great breakfast each morning and the other people staying while we were there were nice and friendly which made for a good experience. WHEN (not if) I go back to Rio I will definately stay here again!!
