“é a minha praia...it's my cup of tea!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 5 February 2012

Overview
We just returned from Rio and spent 5 days at this lovely hotel. Beautiful decor, nice pool, really helpful staff. We stayed in three of the rooms - Recamier, Shangai and Copacabana.....the nicest being Recamier as it has wonderful views of Christ the Redeemer. All rooms have big bathrooms and good showers - Copa bathroom is a little smaller than the others. Given the price difference between the rooms, Copa and Recamier are definitely worth paying the extra for.
Location:
Yes this place is a little out of the centre of things but the staff call taxis for you and explain to the driver where you want to go - so it really is not an issue and we liked staying in the hills, with the spectacular view. It was away from the maddening crowd and helped with the overall relaxing experience.

All in all, really positive experience. We think what made it really special was the great advice given to us by the owner Jacques - he gave us recommendations and was always there if we needed him. This was even more impressive when it transpired he and his wife just had a baby....The guy is a true professional.
Highly recommended.

Room Tip: Recamier - great view, spacious bathroom, nice furniture.

“Unmissable”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 21 January 2012

What a beautiful, funky place. The staff were so helpful and friendly. The decor is just stunning. The view is amazing. A little out of town but taxies were there within minutes and it meant you had a better view and more chilled surroundings as a result.
Highly recommend. They let us stay in our room with no extra charge until our flight that evening. The owner even dropped us into town one of the days as he was heading in himself. I'll be back

“Nice hotel, ebven better host (Jacques)”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 2 December 2011

La Maison is a small hotel or guest house at the posh end of Rio. Its also located just below one of the largest favelas in Rio, but that doesn't seem to be a problem. There isn't much nearby, but it’s a quick bus or taxi ride to get to restaurants, beach etc (or a longer but manageable walk if you're feeling energetic). Our room was comfortable, but could probably do with a refresh. The shower was magnificent - huge with doors opening straight onto the balcony. Views from the back of the hotel are great. I really liked the breakfast and pool areas, though they would have been even better if it had been sunny. Jacques, the owner is really helpful and friendly. Our flight left late at night, but he let us use an empty room to shower before we left for the airport. Jacques's working on a new project in Centro, to create a new hotel - I wish him well, Rio really needs more places like this.

“perfect spot to relax”

we loved this hotel. the guy who runs the place is the best part. super helpful and just a cool guy. rooms are nice with style. only downside is that rio is spread out. this hotel is in the hills. it's not necessary close to everything. if you're looking to just hang at the beach, get a beach hotel. if you're looking for a more relaxing holiday in a hip B&B spot...this is your place!

Room Tip: if you have a lot of time in rio, this is your spot.

“Unique hotel”

We stayed at la masion for 5 nights. It is a really special place to stay in Rio away from the hustle and bustle of the main touristy areas. It is very easy though to take a cab to anywhere in the city. Jacques the owner and his wife were very very helpful and went beyond the call of duty to make our stay memorable. The breakfasts were also excellent and served in the lovely communal area which has fantastic views over Rio. Perfect for travellers wanting a unique non-corporate experience in Rio with amazing personal service.
