“Great location and some outstanding staff”

A couple of blocks in from the beach in Leblon. Lovely neighborhood with loads of restaurants and cafes within easy walking distance. I had been afraid to go to Rio because of stories about violence. Within a day of checking in at this hotel, I felt very much at ease.

We stayed at the Promenade Palladium at each end of our trip to Brazil. We booked our initial stay through hotels.com. We'd requested a quiet room and were given a room at the back of the hotel, overlooking a large, communal square, shared with many other properties, including apartments and a childrens' playground. Our room was large, though not very quiet. I don't usually like to sleep with the air conditioner on, but used it to drown out the noise from the communal square. Due to some outstanding customer service (apart from our somewhat disappointing room), we booked directly with the hotel to stay another 3 nights following an excursion outside Rio and were given a much nicer room with a balcony at the front of the hotel, overlooking a leafy street. It was quieter than the room at the back of the hotel. I think we may have been upgraded.

We had amazing assistance from Edina, one of a handful of English-speaking staff, who helped us book a hotel in another part of Brazil. All of the English-speaking staff (not all staff spoke English and understandably needed to refer us to someone who could) were very helpful. The reason we decided to book at this hotel again for our last 3 nights in Brazil was because of the very helpful staff.

Breakfast is buffet-style, with a huge selection. I was particularly impressed with the scrambled eggs, which were kept warm over a bath of hot water so they didn't dry out.

A couple of tips: We liked to have a drink at one of the many outdoor bars, overlooking Leblon and Ipanema beaches, up the hill to the right once you reach main road next to the beach. The hotel's pool was not heated when we were there - shame as it is a good size for laps, though not very scenic (not rooftop). Alot of business people stay at this hotel. It threw me a bit when I first showed up at breakfast in tourist garb, but no one seemed to mind.

Room Tip: Rooms at the front are quieter than the rooms at the back.

“Used to be the best in town, rooms getting old”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 12 January 2012

In 2007 this was surely the best hotel in town. The location is still unbeatable, near everything that's cool about Leblon (the place to be in Rio). Service is still great, being a small hotel has it's advantages as receptionists are more human and less robotic. Most of them are here for about 2-3 years.

However the rooms are getting old, and what was a trendy decor 5-10 years ago is now suffering from heavy usage (this hotel is almost always full). Curtains with little holes makes the mornings have more light than they should. A/C does not work all the times for all the rooms, anf if you need maintenance at night and the hotel is full.. guess what... you have to wait for the other day.

Room service is next to non-existant, however Leblon offers really good choices at walking distance. So not a big problem.

“Great location, hotel is good but it could be brilliant with a couple of minor improvements”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 12 November 2011

We loved the location of this Leblon hotel. In a great neighbourhood and surrounded by many restaurants and bars. We had issues with our room when checking in, we found that the balcony door would not lock as it was broken. When we reported this to the receptionist she told us that it was ok because none of them locked and they have never had issues with any break ins which I can believe however still not very reassuring to a foreign visitor especially given the bad press that Rio gets. After a few conversations we spoke to the very lovely head of reception who moved us to another suite with fully functioning locks on the doors!! Another surprise on checking in was to hear that the swimming pool was out of order for rennovations. Whilst I definitely understand this is necessary it would have been much nicer for the hotel to have informed us at reservation stage or before we arrived. Plus points were the breakfast staff and selection of foods were very good along with the location. This hotel could be made to be really fantastic with a bit more attention to customer care and maintenance of the rooms along with providing furniture for the clients to enjoy sitting out on the beautiful rooftop terraces and balconies. Overall I would recommend as the positives did outweigh any negatives

“Perfect Location in Leblon”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 18 August 2011

The hotel is close to Leblon Beach and to the best bars/restaurants around. Nice rooms and good breakfast. Every time I travel to Rio I stay here, it´s not fancy (it´s an apart hotel), but it fits perfectly for a weekend.
