I spent only one night at this hotel and felt as I slept in cell of Alcatraz.
I was there on May 30 - 31, 2010
I choose this place because of great location - extremly close to Copacabana Beach - and reserved room by Internet. I trusted the hotel's web site and it was my crucial mistake.
I planned to stay there for three days, but luckily I paid only one night on my check-in. I decided to pay the rest when I check - out.
I say again, luckily.
Althought I arrived there about 5. p.m when I entered my room it seems as it is deep night. I asked hotel boy is there any window there and he showed me. It looked in vertical and fully dark space limited by windows of other rooms. I felt as I am looking on elevator track. He told me it is not possible to open the window explaining to me that air condition - extremly loud machine in the room - will compensate " fresh air" ?
I was shocked.
From one side it was better I could not open window because of bad smells, on other side it created claustorphobic atmosphere of prison cell.
No daily light, no fresh air, small space, old wooden table with two chairs and bad artificial light. An ideal place for depressed person with suicidal tendency. No better location to ended the miserable life.
It also associates me on brooms storage place rather than hotel room on Copacabana....
The safe box was not useful because it was not possible lock it.
The only good thing was free wi-fi, so I had chance to make online reservation in another hotel.
But before I definitely decided to leave this horror in the morning, I asked receptionist to show me another room complaining on my " prison cell".
He showed me bigger, double-bed room with the view on the street on higher rate but I rejected that option giving him on mind that guest certainly deserves better room for the same price if he didn't get what he paid.
Unfortunately, they had no sense for my complaints.
I had hard night. I could not sleep because of lacking the fresh air that intensified my inner felling of claustrohobia. I had to go under shower to accelerate my circulation in brain and body and find way to reduce the tension I felt due to lack of oxygen.
After breakfast - it was O. K - I packed my bags and left the room, previously making online reservation in hotel " Debret" that is more close to Copacabana Beach and certainly better than this one.
The receptionist was surprised why I am leaving but she did not try to give me some alternative option, so I concluded they were not interested to keep me as a guest, not respecting neither my needs nor my money.
I don't recommend this to anyone and my advice for all travelers : be carefully when you consult hotel's web site.
Hotel reviews are much valid and they may be very helpful for making of your final decision. I must admit I did not consult Trip Advisor or similar web site so I went through all of this I described above.
