It was acceptable but
-the room was very noisy (windows not sufficiently thick).
-the hot water in the shower was not working, and although I told the reception they did not do anything about it.
-The manager and reception people were not nice at all, and even rude. Although I kindly requested the employees to turn the TV down a little, they did not do it because they were watching something in Protuguese. I wondered who the customer was : me, or them?

But I guess this is what you get for the price. Breakfast was good.

After a few nights in an uncomfortable hotel for almost the same price in Ipanema, we where really happy we found the new and modern Benidorm Palace in Copacabana !
Friendly staff, breakfast gorgeous, pool, gym and sauna on the roof, clean and spacious room and bathroom and very good price performance ratio (January 2008 right before carnaval)!

Last but not least: Five minutes to the fabulous beach!

P.S.: Don't be afraid of Copacabana, it's a great neighbourhood!

We were booked into the sun hostel in Rio for carnival last year and when we got there we realised we couldn't stay there. It was filthy, the dorms were tiny, it was massively overpriced and there was no airconditioning.
We found the Benidorm Palace by chance and for the same price as the hostel we got a triple room with sauna, a pool on the roof and a fantastic breakfast buffet. They even sent a car to pick us up from the hostel from hell. It couldn't have been better!
