“Location & Practicality”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 23 January 2012

people found this review helpful

we were a group of 4 adults. stayed in a 2 bed suite, which consisted of a livinig room, small kitchenete, dining area, twin bedroom, shower room, double bed with ensute shower.

positives;
great location; 2 blocks from leblon beach, lots of restaurants & shops, the nearest supermarket is called pao de asucar about 3 blocks away. most importantly this is a safe area in rio.
2 shower-rooms, a rare finding
lots of space
clean
we had sea views & view onto corcovado

negatives;
the rooms are a bit tired & in need of an update
the elevators are incredibly slow - slowest i have ever come across.
people at reception are not particularly friendly - relatively poor english (but not a big issue)

overall mercure leblon is a solid 3* apartment hotel - very practical option that provides lots of space in a great location. decent value in expensive rio

“Rio De Janeiro Vacation Jan 4-11, 2012”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 14 January 2012

The main selling point is the location AND the fact that these Apart-Hotels are VERY VERY BIG!! I would say the average size is about 700 square feet! They have an enclosed kitchen with FULL SIZE STOVE, FULL SIZE SINK, FULL SIZE REFRIGERATOR, Dining area, living room, hallway to bedroom with is VERY BIG with GIGANTIC closet and bed and SUPER BIG closet and good size bed room. Great views!

The so so is that it doesn't really have a fitness room, just 3 pieces of equipment in a corner, satisfactory restaurant and bar.

The elevator is EXTREMELY slow and small and can only hold 4 people! And the building is old BUT sturdy so you won't hear your neighbors, but there are only 190 rooms.

The location is in the HEART of Leblon which is NO DOUBT is the best area and most exclusive and richest in all of RIO! Yes, more than Copacabana and Inpenema!

You are in the middle of exclusive restaurants and the beach!

Room Tip: I would pick this is you are SINGLE and love a big room! The

“Very Central but only 40% of the rooms belong to the hotel..many strangers!”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed 5 January 2012

We stayed in this hotel for 2 nights. The position is very central in one of the smartest area of town (so do not expect bars and wild night life nearby)

The flats (we rented two of them) were large and comfortable with one exception of the bathrooms which are VERY VERY old.

The bed was very large and VERY comfortable

The breakfast (a bit pricy) was average (the croissant were very greasy and not tasty!)

Front desk as usual depends on the employees...some of them were kind some others less.

However what rally strikes me is that almost 70% of the rooms DO NOT belong to the hotel, hence the "residents control" is very weak and in a place like Rio I think this is very important.

The hotel needs refurbishing all common areas are at least 20 years old.

I would look for other places to stay (my cousin stayed at the atlantis in copacabana and loved it)

“Location, location, location”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 30 December 2011

Location, location, location. The building and apartments are old and need full renovation. Elevators are small, slow and always crowded. Extremely expensive for the facilities offered. Only choose this hotel for the location.

“Great Location but Worn and Old”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed 2 December 2011

This is a apart/hotel where the majority of the rooms are suites. The best part of the hotel is the location, beach is 2 blocks away, lots of restaurants nearby and in the heart of Leblon, OK negatives.... a little too many, lets start with the worn down condition of the hotel lobby and rooms. It looks as if the hotel has never received a renovation since it was built. The pool on the roof is shallow and there's not much outdoor furniture to sit on. And the "gym", what a joke, it's so small, that you can't even find it.

Attending staff are polite but not very helpful and watch for those extra charges on the room bill when you check out.

Room Tip: There's a grocery across the street the sells 1 liter bottles of water for a reasonable price.
