Stayed here for my final 2 nights of travels in South America. I was very surprised with the hotel being so run down, while situated on one of the best stretches of the Copacabana.

The outside of the hotel speaks volumes of what to expect. Poor reception area, scruffy furniture, dirty carpets on corridors and grumpy staff. Just found the day conceirge smily and helpful.

The rooms had really old furniture, dirty bedspreads as blankets and worn out bath towels. It was just ok for the time spent, but disappointed in total hotel.

This hotel sucks. If you are going in the summer and like A/C, do not go here. The rooms are very small, cheap, and the A/C is terrible. I had one request one week in advance when I made the reservations, to have a room with good A/C. Instead, they gave me a room with NO A/C as if it was a joke to them. It was incredibly hot in there. Without exaggerating, it felt like a steamy bathroom in there. When I asked them about the issue, they were very rude. They said they did not have any other rooms available except for upgrades, and they would not upgrade me unless I paid nor would they return my money so that I can find a hotel elsewhere. I was extremely frustrated with them. They could have given me another room, but they chose not to do it because it was an upgrade so I had to sleep extremely uncomfortable and dissapointed my first night in Rio. Needless to say, I packed up and left the next morning. Do Not Waist Your Time and Money!!!

Ok, this review is about 18 months too late but having just remembered about tripadvisor just wanted to advise others not to go anywhere near this place.

The manager is a buffoon, the hotel is a dump. It's in a decent location but so are a thousand other places. Take your business elsewhere.

Stayed at this hotel as part of an organised tour as the accomodation originally reserved was overbooked. Agreed, its in a handy spot (right on Copacobana beach but near the Ipanima end so good for walking down that way) but overall the hotel felt "tired" in most respects. Excellent views from the 11th floor breakfast room. Rooms pretty dark and cluttered, plus a fair amount of noise in the hotel itself. Being next door to the housekeeping staff staffroom (with its constant sound of doors opening and closing, chatting and telephone ringing at 7am) probably didnt help to endear the hotel to me either! Staff on reception appeared surly. Overall, wouldnt recommend it, am sure something much nicer could be found for the same price - staying right on the beach isnt a major selling point for me, especially as the room didnt overlook the beach anyway!
