“Hotel management rude and not customer friendly”
1 of 5 stars Reviewed 12 December 2010

We booked this hotel because of its location and reasonable rates. It was a last minute booking made under 24 hours due to an emergency at about 10pm the night before. Turns out we were unable to secure transportation to Rio from Buzios and called back in the morning to cancel since we wouldn't be able to make it. The hotel staff that answered the phone was rude and hung up on us refusing to help us with a refund, even though there was plenty of time to sell the room.

“Only if you must!”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 17 November 2010

The location of the hotel is great, just a block back from the beach and surrounded by good places to eat, shop and access buses and the metro. We were given a room that was old and looked a bit shabby with noisy air-con and the biggest cockroach I had ever seen!!! Although once we saw what other rooms were available we decided that we had got a very good deal as ours was a suite, very spacious with a great bathroom. The breakfast was avarage but would set you up for the day, and our room was cleaned well on a daily basis. The staff were another matter altogeather, really unhelpful and lost interest really quickly if you struggled with the language. The door man tried to set us up in a private taxi (if that was what it was), and then tried to negotiate a trumped up fare for the driver..there are many other hotels in the area that provide a better/friendlier service so only stay here if you must.

this must be the worst hotel I have stayed. the room was dreadful, there was no room service, completely run down. I booked a double room and was put in a 12ft by 7 foot room. Even after numerous calls from my travel agent they refused to change the rooms

“Don't ask any questions!”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed 19 August 2010

Was at the end of a three week tour of Argentina and Brazil and this was our last hotel before leaving. Unfortunately, it was the worst accomodation we had stayed in. Reception staff not helpful, welcoming or polite - you would be lucky to get the occasional grunt! A few staff could speak English but seemed very rude when asked a question so don't ask any! However, that might just be the reaction to English people, friendlier smiles were given to those who spoke the lingo. Room was small, one suitcase was left in the Hallway so as not to clogg up the rest of the tiny room. We didn't particularly like hearing the elevator going up and down through the paper thin walls. Breakfast was ok with a fairly good selection however, juice was very watered down and not recommended! Creme Caramel was a favourite of ours tho!

On the plus side, excellent location - two blocks away from the beach. The maid did a good job in keeping our room clean and the place was clean.
In conclusion, don't think it lives up to the three star mark but if you are looking for somewhere to lay your head and willing to pay a lot more than hostel prices, this is the place to go.

“Comfortable hotel but expensive”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 12 August 2010

We liked the location and convenience to shops, restaurants, ATMs and the beach.
The room was very small; the breakfast was ok, not as generous as in some other hotels in Brazil. Limited menu for vegetarians.
The staff was courteous and helpful and the reception staff could communicate in English.
We feel the rate charged was very high for the small sized room.
