“Worst Hotel Ever. Don't not even THINK about it! If there's no Accomodation in Rio stay on the Beach!”
1 of 5 stars Reviewed 11 January 2012

I have never in my life seen anything like it. Roof on every floor were dismantled with Piping and wires exposed, terrible smell of frying and death in the place surprisingly! The rooms had Safe deposit boxes that had no doors on them. Wi Fi had not been working cause of the weather apparently on the day. After complaining to the Manager he conveniently mentions that he is not available and tells we cant get our money back to which. We decided to leave straight away after loosing £300. On collecting our bags i had noticed something even more disturbing which was 2 dead Cockroaches in the lobby which they had not even Bothered to clean it up which encouraged me further to make haste and leave.

“Perfectly acceptable hotel”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 4 December 2011

I must first say that this hotel is nowhere near as bad as some previous over-the-top reviews, and I was pleasantly surprised. However, as I only stayed for two nights my review might not have been quite as favourable if I'd had to spend too much longer.
The hotel has a great location - not on Copacabana Beach, but only a ten minute stroll.
Our room was comfortable, but the view was disappointing - we were on the same floor as the swimming pool and next to the steps leading to it. Anyone walking from the pool into the hotel could look straight into our room!
The bedroom was fine and the bathroom clean.
Breakfast was good, on the same floor as the lobby. There was also a small bar there where we had a couple of beers before dinner. We didn't actually eat dinner in the hotel and the restaurant didn't seem to be too popular.
The surrounding area felt reasonably safe, and we walked around the streets in the immediate vicinity after dark without feeling we needed to look over our shoulders.
Rio was great, but the weather was dreadful - torrential rain the majority of the time.
Probably wouldn't return to this hotel, but certainly not as dire as others have described.

“This hotel motivates you to not stay in your room.”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 20 November 2011

I stayed in a single room, and one word that describes my room(502): Minute!
I went to complain after choosing a 24hrs wifi connection, the reception guy decided to give a free 24hrs wifi access, after he checked for other available rooms on the system and told me there's no room available, so I let it.
My door is a step away from my single bed with a dodgy blanket. I have no good view when I open the curtains, I was facing another side of other rooms. At least there's a save. My closet looks like a kitchen cabinet. My tv is the same size as my head, its just square shaped. I don't even want to go on about my bathroom.
This hotel is close to the public buses, the beach, resturants and conveniet stores.
I don't like the hotel, and it became a good motivator to not stay indoors. And plus I'm on a budget, and if u are also then try it

“#1 of WORST HOTELS WORLDWIDE”
1 of 5 stars Reviewed 19 October 2011

First time visit to Rio and thanks to this experience, it will be the last. I have to agree to other comments here about staff. They are all naturally unpolite, however I will not blame them but the management. Hotel charged me $720 (dollars not reals) per night in a non-refundable booking. I left 15 minutes later anyway and paid another hotel. Clerk offered me a beautiful suite on the top floor where my shock started when I saw all the roof had been taken off. View from everywhere in the room was awful. I will try to upload images. The greasy smell throughout the property provoked vomiting. The worst was the sense of unsafety. I am so happy now I took the decision of running away from this place.

Room Tip: Stay at a true recognized five-star or more brand.

The location is good, some places to eat near the hotel, good options for transportation.
