This hotel really has a lot going for it. Location for one. On a leafy street one block from Copacabana beach. The building is taller than most others on its block, offering nice views from the higher floors. The top floor has a small pool and fitness center which has excellent views of the beach and the neighborhood. We spent part of our last evening up there just taking it easy.
So now the rooms. Also some good things to say. There are laminate floors which are really nice and seem pretty new. There are also flat-screen TVs that can't be more than two or three years old. Bathrooms are huge and showers are excellent. We had a little balcony that overlooked the street. Noise was not a huge problem.
There are also some negatives about the rooms. Our king bed was in fact two twin beds pushed together. The towels were Motel 6 quality. The AC unit was loud when the compressor was running. The look of the rooms (and the hotel in general) is more 1950 than 2012, but still are pleasant enough.
Payment was requested at the beginning of our three-day stay, which I have not had to do ever in Brazil. Wifi was free, but flaky. It was not working more often than it was. Thank goodness there was someone who had not put any security on his network nearby.
The Siqueira Campos metro stop is only about three blocks away. The neighborhood has a nice little sandwich shop and a boteco on the corner, and a Sunday market in the square next to the hotel. It's a great little part of Copacabana.
