“A Two Star Hotel Rated Four Star”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 14 December 2011

The Windsor Palace had several good qualities. The breakfast was excellent. A high level room was reasonably quiet. The rooms were clean. The location was acceptable, in the center of Copacabana.

The negatives: the lower level rooms are noisy. The front desk promised to change us to a higher floor, but they reneged that next day. Do not trust anything they say. Still, most of the staff were gracious and helpful. The room was clean though half the shower door was missing.

I would not stay here again.

Room Tip: Choose a suite on a high floor before you reserve this hotel.

Hotel is on good location, 5 minute easy walk to Copacabana beach. Nice small pool on the roof. Very clean hotel. The hotel staff was very friendly and accommodating.

“Ok for the money”

Stayed for two nights in September. We had a superior room on the top floor and was more than happy with the quality, although the decor is a little bit dated, but the views are pretty good and even better from the roof terrace.
The staff are not a particularly cheery bunch, but they are fairly efficient and speak good english, the breakfast is of and ok standard with plenty of options and the free wifi is a bit clunky but just about works.

There are plenty of bars and restaurants around the hotel and it's only a couple of minutes from the beach. Don't be put off by suggestions that the area is crawling with thieves and muggers, we found the streets surrounding the hotel to be a vibrant and interesting area, busy with both locals and tourists until late at night with plenty of police around.
Copa beach is very beautiful and stunning and it's great to have it on your door step and Rio is a fantastic city that nobody should miss out on.

“Good value but some significant problems”

The hotel is conveniently located one block back from the beach, shopping and public transport. It is also good value for money. The staff are very friendly and extremely helpful and the view from the rooftop pool bar is magnificent. BUT. The rooms are in desperate need of a facelift. They look as though they last had a coat of varnish in about 1970. The air conditioning is from the Stone Age; the rooms have elderly poke through the wall units and they make a hell-of-a-noise. In summer you have a choice between being boiled alive and the sound of a jumbo jet taxiing next to your bed. The restaurant serves overcooked, over-salty fare but there are plenty of great restaurants in the vicinity. What put the lid on it for me was the plague of bedbugs. The hotel staff quickly moved me to another room and ironed all my clothes FOC. In fairness, they put everything right as soon as they were made aware but two days later one of my colleagues was also eaten alive by bedbugs on a different floor. If you find red or black spots in the bed you will know what caused them...

Room Tip: Get as high a floor as possible. Need to be above 13th for a sea view; or at the East end (rooms end...

“Great Value”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 1 November 2011

My boyfriend and I stayed one night at The Windsor Plaza in an Executive Superior Queen room before joining our tour group at a hotel down the street the next day. Our flight arrived after midnight to Rio which I had called ahead to let them know. The front desk was pleasant and efficient in checking us in that evening and we were assigned an ocean facing room on the top floor. The room was fairly large with a lot of closet space, a desk and a minibar. The bathroom was also comfortably large and we had a small balcony. The room and the hotel itself are a little dated and look like they could use a facelift but it's quite clean and the location is fantastic, just about 2 blocks away from Copacabana beach. I had read some reviews saying that the rooftop pool was closed for renovations but they appear to now be complete as we were fully able to enjoy the facilities. They consist of a small wading pool, a small gym room and a bar. The buffet breakfast was among the best we had on our 3 week trip throughout South America. Overall the hotel's a great pick for those who don't want to pay big bucks.
