“Absolutely Wretched”
1 of 5 stars Reviewed 15 January 2012

Where do I start... How about on our first day there the maid stole $200 from our room. Our safe was broken... so there you have it. We informed the manager and she had the nerve to tell me I didn't remember how much money I had. I said, "That's funny because your maid stole 2 of my US Hundred dollar bills, and I only had a total of 3 notes". I'm pretty sure I can remember the difference between 3 notes and 1 note... Well, I asked for some sort of concession and she said nope, and didn't even apologize for our crappy experience. Some more facts - they claim to be 3 blocks from the beach... that's a fat lie, now who can't count? They are 7 blocks away down a dirty and over crowded street that takes about 30 minutes to push your way down. Should I continue... okay, if you are into breaking your back, stay here, no box spring under their 3,000 year old mattress, oh, and if you prefer a queen or king, forget it, they bless you with a barbie doll size single bed. More? That great shot of their tiny pool - it's about the size of my bath tub and as cold as my opinion of them. The final farewell, they asked us if we needed a taxi to the airport, we declined, they insisted, as it turned out, we paid double what we should have been charged... awesome.. Honestly, I've been to many countries, this was my worst experience.

Room Tip: This is obvious... pick another hotel.

“Aged week end in Rio”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed 29 November 2011

I have been there with my family and a couple of friends. Very difficult start, despite the nice welcome of the person at the reception the reservation was not followed, none of the three rooms was in line with the reservation. On top of this the air conditioned of one of the rooms was not working and they insisted saying the opposite... We had to wait till the next shift to get a new room and not without discussing!!
No room service for two out of the three rooms and we had to call the room service to at least get the towels changed... Not much better the breakfast, tables very closed one to each other and people not really willing to serve, not even smiling...I am still waiting for a "good morning".
Difficult to recommend such a place to others especially considering the price...

Room Tip: top floors are better

“Right in front of subway, ok price, though not near the beach”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 26 October 2011

The hotel is nice, cleaned every day, and has good internet. I found it extremely convenient that it has a subway stop literally right in front of the hotel entrance, which was great to go to Ipanema without paying an Ipanema overpriced hotel (Copacabana isn't as nice as Ipanema, but you could always walk to Copacabana). Breakfast is good, rooms are clean and not very noisy. Room service was nice as well. I have been here twice and would stay there again, because sometimes hotels in Rio are really a lottery (see my other review of one horrible Rio hotel).

However, please note that this hotel is more for business than for pleasure. If you want a "pleasure-type" hotel try Ipanema, but be prepared to a very high cost and not necessarily good service.

Room Tip: Not towards the street, those are the silent ones.

“Great location - good value for money”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 23 October 2011

The hotel is located in the very centre of Copacabana, in the middle of bustling activity. Overall, I am a strong believer of the fact that you get what you pay for, so from this viewpoint the hotel is perfect value for the money you pay.

The juice bar around the corner is great - I loved spending every morning there with a cup of coffee or a large glass of freshly squeezed juice.

“An average experience - this hotel could be better with just a few changes”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 24 September 2011

This hotel has potential - well located for the metro and not too far from Copacabana beach and main road (a few blocks away). A few changes and it would move from average to good in my book!
The staff was ok, most of them even very helpful (at least when speaking Spanish or Portoñol - not sure how good their English is, though). The rooms were clean and had all the basics - but no frills and maybe a bit small for some- but shower and water taps all seemed to leak or close with great difficulty (contradicting their environmental statement saying they have water-saving showers). The garden beyond glass in the foyer has real potential and would look great if they just did a bit of work on it. The pool on the roof is great but lacks a bit of shade.
The business has no printing facility (at least not at night when I tried) and check-out payment needs to be in the morning and not allowed the night before - rather inconvenient for an early flight.
Where they could improve most, is on their uninspiring breakfast - not really bad but lacks variety of for example cheeses, eggs and hams all of which were not really tasty quality.
I suppose value for money is a problem in general in Rio, but I feel that for the price one can expect more attention to some of these details mentioned.
