I actually didn't stay at the hotel myself, I just tried to go to my friends room with her and they tried making me pay R$70 (Around US$35), so if you plan on bringing visitors, I would suggest another hotel. The staff had clearly told me that if I came back after 7 am I would be aloud in the room free of cost. When I came back around 8, they told me that what they had said was, "If you pay the R$70, you can go to the room and stay until 7," which was just not true. Then they have me wait to talk with a manager who is supposed to be in at 8, but of corse he's late. He told me I was not aloud in the room without paying and if I had a problem with it I could talk to the police. Yeah right, the last people you want to talk to is Rio De Janeiro police. I could see him saying this if I was drunk and beligerant, but I was totally sober and totally calm about everything.
I've worked in the hotel industry for the last 3 years, and I have never witnessed any receptionist or manager as rude as the people at this hotel. I just couldn't believe it. I would have been fired from any of the three hotels I've worked at in the first day if I acted the way these people act. I hear a lot of reviews about places not caring, but not only did they not care, I almost felt they went out of their way to be rude! Worst customer service I've seen in my life, hands down!!! Do not stay at this hotel!!! I lived in Brazil for 6 months, and it's not Brazilian service, it's just this hotel. So don't let this review discourage you about service in Brazil, the people are awesome. Just don't stay at this hotel!
