“There are better alternatives in the city”
1 of 5 stars Reviewed 9 July 2011

It is an old hotel with a maximum of two stars and in need of urgent retrofit. Its location is excellent in center and 50 meters from Copacabana beach. Some apartments have a small balcony overlooking the sea. Check-in is confusing. I was at the end of June/2011. Receptionists fill out the check-in with wrong number of apartments and distribute keys to the wrong people. The next morning we needed perform the check-out quickly due to scheduled appointments. Check-out took almost an hour and we are without breakfast because there was a large spill water on the floors above the restaurant. The hotel did not give any discount for the absence of the breakfast room and offered no alternative. There are better alternatives in the city and at better prices too.

“Nice location”

The hotel is located 30 meters from the Av. Atlantica of Copacabana. You are on the beach.

This hotel has seen better days. Breakfast was OK. There are lots of places in the neighborhood. I suggest Siqueira Grill where you can eat suchi or meat per kilogram and the price was reasonable and it is located on Siqueira Campos road just behind the hotel. The subway/metro (Siqueira Campos station) and bus stops are very close.

The afternoon shift at the Hotel front desk Mr. Egon and Mr. Jefrei was helpful. I can not say the same thing for the morning shift. Personel like all service people in Rio do not speak any other language but Portuguese.

Internet works, just get the password, go near the elevators in your rooms corridor or close to the door in your room.

Room Tip: All rooms 709,809,909 ending with 9 are OK.

“WARNING! DO NOT GO THERE!”

The wirst hotel I ever was. (And I already saw some in Europe, Africa and South America, also in Rio de Janeiro)
The staff is very rude. The rooms are small, dark, dirty, noisy with a view to the neighbouring buildings. The equipment is old, rounchy, power cables hang out of the wall.
The breakfast is blah. Old cakes, probably bought in the neighbouring super market.
I saw the same "bolo de pudim" for 4 days. This food is made of eggs and milk and it stood in the breakfast room without any cooling which could cause a food poisining.
I also saw cockroaches on my table in the breakfast room.

I was thinking about what would I do if I was the hotel manager and came to the result that the best solution would be to close this rathole. Even a renovation has no sense in this neighbourhood and by the size of the ground on which the hotel was built.

I would rather suppose to put bars on the windows and change the profile from hotel to prison. In this case they could keep the stuff too.

“Nice with excellent cost vs. benefits”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 18 April 2011

I was in this Hotel during my last Trip to Rio de Janeiro. To be honest, its not a hotel 4-5 stars and maybe you will find rooms and services relatively poor, but, for those people are looking for cost and benefits this Hotel will reach the expectations (fits perfectly). The rate is fair considering the prices around, the location is excellent (Copacabana), close to restaurants and crossing street you are on the beach. I truly enjoyed staying there. Nice option!! Good Price!!

Room Tip: Book it in advance minimum 2 weeks.

“Clean but small rooms - good 2* hotel”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed 15 April 2011
1
person found this review helpful

Rating this hotel against other 3 star hotels would be difficult to give it any kind of good rating. Hotels in Copacabana and Rio in general are basic and/or small. The hotel is not directly on Av. Atlantico but rooms in front do have a view (from the balcony) of the beach. The rooms are extremely small and basic, even by Brazilian standards. The rooms seem to be under renovation. Breakfast is not very appetizing and basic. Hotel staff are not as much rude as they are direct. The front desk staff all speak good English and will take care of any issues quickly. The rooms and hotel in general were very clean.

There are many good restaurants within walking distance of the hotel and it is not far from the Metro.

The room price was high compared to the value of the hotel.

The rooftop pool was very small. The rooms all seemed to have twin beds (not very comfortable) and noisy air conditioners.

Room Tip: Ask for a higher floor room
