“Not worth the visit”

Althought the hotel is in a good location, the place is a bit run down and over priced. I stayed over New Year so prices were vastly inflated and for £350 a night the room just did not live up to that price. The first room I was put in overlooked some sort of staff boiler room and there was a man right outside my window smoking and no view whatsoever, I requested a move and got a room on the 12th floor. Be warned - the windows open right up and it is extremely dangerous as you could easily fall out of the window, Definitely not a place for children, sleep walkers or those who may have had a few drinks.
The bathroom was old fashioned and the walls were covered with a grey sort of ply board - probably to hide bad tiling. The towels are so old they are brown rather than white.
On a positive note - the staff are friendly and helpful and keen to please. The rooms were cleaned efficiently and quickly but you did notice breakfast trays were left on the side in the corridors all day.
On departing the doorman ordered me a taxi to go to the airport and they wanted to charge RS$80 which is an absurd price. I hailed a yellow can and paid just under RS$50. The doorman was not happy that I chose not to take his can which incidently looked like a private vehicle.
If they spent some money doing the place up it would be so much better and they'd attract more people.

Room Tip: Ask for a view overlooking the Corcodova.

“My favorite hotel in Rio.”

Not the poshest location, nor overexpensive either, very easy to reach downtown by subway and Ipanema/Leblon is a 10' cab ride from here. Always stay there, and enjou it every time. There are newer and fancier, but the big bed and the powerful shower makes it a perfect combination to restore the energies.

“Fantastic location”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 26 November 2011

We booked this hotel through Imagine Latin America as part of a package for a tour we were doing of Brazil and Argentina. It was our first stop in Brazil and Imagine Latin America arranged for a tour guide and driver to meet us at the airport and then transferred us there. The hotel is very big, it has a lovely rooftop pool area and bar and the staff were very friendly. The room was large, clean and had a view of Christ the Redeemer (recommend getting a room at the back of the hotel so you can see it!). There was a large choice at the buffet breakfast - fruit juices, toast, fruit, yogurt, cereal, cakes/pastries and some hot food too. The location of the hotel is great, not far from a tube stop and an easy walk to Copacabana beach. Would recommend to a friend/return in the future.

Room Tip: Try to get a room at the back for a view of Christ The Redeemer.

“Great hotel - a house away from home”

Mirador Hotel is my very favorite place to stay in Rio.
Very well located, three blocks from Copacabana Beach, two blocks from the subway station, and a quick cab ride from Ipanema beach, where you want to hang out in Rio. The food is very good and breakfast is delicious, even though the dining room is a bit tacky.
Showers are delicious, and the view from the pool upstairs is very nice.
The staff is very helpful, actually speak English, and if you have any complaints, you speak directly to the owner - he discreetly stays by the front desk, checking how is business is being run.
Have stayed in more luxurious hotels in Rio - but I still prefer this place when in Rio.
It's definetly worth the stay.

“Good hotel close to Copacabana Beach”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 7 December 2010

We stayed at the Mirador Rio for 3 nights as a base for exploring Rio. The hotel is clean, modern and the rooms spacious. The staff were helpful at all times. We arrived earlier than the check in time but were able to access our room straight away with no problems. There is a small roof top pool, a gym, restaurant, and bar. The breakfast was good with a fair amount of choice and the service was good.
The view from our room was of Christ the Redeemer. The hotel is about 3 blocks from Copacabana Beach and took about 7 minutes to walk to. We took buses to various places and felt safe. We were careful about not taking out valuables etc and did not feel threatened at any time.
We had a private tour guide for a day, buggy tours of Rio, and this was excellent. I would highly recommend Delores who will drive you around Rio in her beach buggy-she is passionate about the city and really made our trip a fabulous experience. She is available at [--] and her website is www.myspace.com/buggytour
