“Majestic Palace....I Think Not.”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed 6 February 2012

I stayed at the Majestic Rio Palace in November 2011 for 2 weeks and while this establishment has much going for it such as good location for the wonderful beach and transport links, delicious buffet breakfast, helpful front of house staff and entirely adequate shower it was pretty average in other areas.
My room, although only a standard was both small, basic and way over priced, it pretty much resembled military style accomodation was so old fashiones. In addition the TV was virtually on the ceiling and internet was both expensive and painfully slow.
The swimming pool is not suitable for swimming being tiny and the exercise equipment squeaky and rusty.

Never Again at this place and I was annoyed with my friend for recommending it.

Room Tip: Stay somewhere else.

“great hotel for the price and location!!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 7 March 2011

We selected this hotel for the location and the price and were very pleased!! The service is exceptional as is the location. It's only a 5 minute walk to the beach and there are lots of restaurants and bars around. We loved the fact that the hotel was on a residential street and just a block away from a busy street.

The breakfast buffet is very elaborate with something for everyone - the fruit selection was amazing! The room service menu is very limited and wasn't my favorite, but there were plenty of restaurants around to suit our taste buds.

There are a few things to consider: the walls are paper thin so if people are in the hallway talking, you will hear it. There is also a service telephone in the hallway that rings very loud and you can hear it in the room and you could hear the hairdryer down 2 levels. We weren't bothered by any of this as it wasn't very intruding.

Overall, you get very good value for your money and if you have a problem, the staff will correct it quickly. I don't understand why this hotel has such low reviews. The prices in Rio are very expensive, so this is a very affordable hotel (and we were here for Carnival). It may not be a US 3 star hotel, but then again.... we're not in the US and every country has its own star system.

“never again!”

Stayed over for new years 2010.
arrived on the 26th dec, first impressions are good but....
Cleaners are very loud (talking and making/moving beds) in the morning. You can hear every single flush from the next room as if it was in your own room. This does not help when the walls are made of paper!
Most of the time internet was not working (only 2 computers available) which you have to pay for, and you have to pay for wi-fi aswell.
A/C sounds like a old propeler airplane when switched on.

“Decent nice 3-star hotel 5 min from the beach”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 20 December 2010

I spent 6 nights here for a seminar. It is a decent hotel with good breakfasts, located on a quiet safe street about 5 minutes walk from the beach, in the center of the Copacabana neighborhood. Everything worked well – AC, programmable safe, TV (no English or French language news though), etc. My bathroom had abit of a moldy smell (limited ventilation there, but was fine). The shower had ALOT of pressure and loads of hot water. There is a small pool that looked clean on the top floor with a view over the tops of nearby buildings all the way to the beach; in the other direction rooms at the top look over buildings across the street and right towards the mountain (favela, but with no houses) - neat. In general the front desk always had someone who spoke excellent English - they were pleasant and efficient though occasionally overworked (you might have to wait abit...).

I would not mind staying there again if on a 3-star budget (for alot more $$ I’d prefer to be near the beach myself…) Yeah, the hotel is not real cheap, but no decent hotels in the area are cheap and this one seemed to be a good choice for us.
