“No value for money!”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed 12 February 2012

Overall hotel is ok. However considering the price (170€ a night prepaid) you would expect a lot more.
Room was very basic, no special furniture, old TV, bathroom was in almost decent conditions. Favela view not expected which made it pretty noisy!
Location: positive is the fact that you're close to Copacabana. However you're not on the seaside but a couple of streets inside so anywhere you have the room, view won't probably be good. Wouldn't recommend to ANYONE to return by foot after dark even though recent security empowerment Rio provided to the city.
For this kind of hotel I wouldn't have expected to pay more than 70-80€ (already pricey, but considering it's Rio...)
Didn't have the opportunity to test service level and additional features (e.g. restaurants etc...)

Room Tip: Wouldn't really know what is the less evil if the favela or the noisy street on the other side!

“A dump”
1 of 5 stars Reviewed 10 February 2012

Every floor smelt. Food was poor, rooms basic. The view from the pool (which was clean) was the best feature. Handy for the beach but few restaurants nearby.

“Great value close to copacabana”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 28 January 2012

This hotel is a block off the leme end of copacabana beach and is a great value for the area. The rooms are adequate and clean and the housekeeping service is very good. A lot of flight crews stay here so late checkouts (2pm) are ok with them. The front desk and bell staff are incredibly helpful and kind. The breakfast is very good and very Brasilian with lots of fruit and typical Brazilian baked goods. The pool and workout facilities are on the top floors with great views. Not too big but adequate for the hotel and with a great view of Corcovado and the Christ and the beaches. See it at night! Fairly good restaurants are abundant and close. Safety is good especially at the beach. For families or groups. WWW is right down the street and has a buffet by the kilo and also an all you can eat pizza special that our group of college students loved and returned to during our stay. It was around 20 reals ($12) each plus drinks.

“Staying here spoilt our time in Rio”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed 10 October 2011

During 40 years of travelling I have never stayed in a worse room. My most serious concern was lack of signage for fire exits and fire exits which were blocked - very worrying when you are staying on high level floors. The public areas were satisfactory and breakfast was ok but once you go up to the bedroom floors it was terrible. The smell in the corridors is awful due to leaks and mould on ceiling. The room furniture was extremely basic, more in line with a hostel or 1 star hotel. Our bathroom was particularly disgusting, the shower full of mould and dirt, the toilet engrained with green staining, green water running out of hand basin tap. The a/c unit was so noisy we had to turn it off, the fridge so noisy we had to turn it off and the noise from the street could be heard even althoughwe were on 16th floor. We were eventually moved to a better but still very basic room and staying in this hotel spoilt our time in Rio. perhaps when renovations are complete this hotel will be better.

Room Tip: Renovated rooms are btter but still very basic.

“Friendly and helpful”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 2 July 2011

We stayed for a week in this hotel. Overall it was good but nothing special. The staff were excellent, very helpful and friendly, most spoke some English which was helpful for me! My Brasilian fiancee acted as my translator most of the time. When we arrived we discovered our room was not sea facing as we were expecting. A quick call to the reception soon sorted that one out. He was great saying that he wanted us to be happy and upgraded us at no extra charge. Breakfast was a fairly traditional Brasilian affair with a nice selection of food. The location of the hotel was great. Set just behind the beach but within a 2 min walk of it and very close to the numerous local restaurants and bars. A great stay overall!

Room Tip: Just speak to reception if you are not happy!
