“Better than the reviews....would stay again...”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 9 February 2012

Stayed here for three night and four days.....arrived at 2pm and asked if we could have a room facing the beach....they have about 30 of them.....the front desk were very polite and said we could have an upgraded room if we could wait for an hour....so we did and went for a walk along the beach and check the surrounding blocks out for places to eat....came back and they took our luggage up in a new elevator to room....#1001....tenth floor...super view of the beach....and quite large with king bed and tv and two chairs etc..and the balcony....could have a party out on it as was so big......ok the furniture was dated and so was the bathroom but it was clean and everything worked.....we found the hotel to be quite clean and the staff very friendly and loved it when we tried to speak Portuguese and they tried to speak English to us.....which some could do easily.....the breakfast was superb....fresh cooked eggs and sausage, many fresh fruits and buns, ham, cheese....wow...it was great.....loved eating there for the three mornings...not crowded but busy so you could see that the hotel was busy with customers....mostly South American's ....but we like the local ambiance.... would rather stay in a place like this than one full of North American's to get the local feeling....the internet was not free but if I put the laptop outside on the balcony there were free connections to be found so that was a bonus....loved the view...hard to visualize the 4km beach from the balcony....really spectacular.....the area was safe and a happening place....ate in restaurants close to the hotel...Amir go left out the door around the corner.... also a hole in the wall barbie chicken place.. Galeto .excellent...reminded us of an old diner and sit on stools..go right out the door around the corner .. La Trattoria...go right two blocks and around corner...rode the buses and subway....they were about three blocks away.....little supermarkets close also for snacks and wine and beer and water....could not believe that you could not drink the water from the taps .....the hotel warned us....thanks also for that .....check out was 12 noon and they looked after our luggage until we were picked up for transport to the airport at 6pm....had a bathroom in the lobby to use and change in.....great also......would we stay here again....in a flash....just for info....we are in our 60's....the hotel looks like they are starting to do some renos as the second elevator was starting to be upgraded.....Ricardo a great guy to talk to if you want info and he can speak English....plus others but did not write the names down...darn.....anyways have fun if you go to Rio...

Room Tip: Arrange transport from the airport to hotel ahead of time.....saves lots of time and hassle

“Very poor hotel. A pity because it is in great location.”
1 of 5 stars Reviewed 9 December 2011

The most important piece of advice I can offer is “DO NOT STAY AT THIS HOTEL”. It is truly ghastly. But first to be fair, the location is terrific and the rooms are a decent size with great views of Copacabana. However after that it is all downhill. The hotel is very badly in need of refurbishment as all the furniture is really dated and unpleasant. The rooms and towels were well worn and looked dirty. The doors to the balcony did not properly close. Most of the staff were indifferent most of the time..

My companion had to change rooms twice. The first time due to the dirty condition of his room and the second time due to an insect infestation. Now I do not mean one or two insects – the room and particularly the bed lined was just crawling with the the things. The management changed the room without argument and gave us a “voucher” for a local (very expensive) restaurant to compensate for the unsettling experience. When asked, the staff member stated that it was worth about Reals100 in total, or Reals 100 each – he was not certain (€44 or €88 respectively). When paying the bill, we were informed the “voucher” was worthless and in fact was only a booking confirmation. When confronted with this the staff member denied what he had said, and said he was only conveniencing us by making the booking. Thanks a lot!!!!!

Both our rooms had no hot water for three days and it never got above tepid. The aging lifts would give one heart failure whenever used, with rattling, groaning, clanking, creaking noises emanating from the exterior as it ascended or descended. One staff member in particular was rude and insulting when we met him in social circumstances outside working hours. In general, apologies were difficult to obtain when complaints were made. Finally, the price for this room at Reals 431 (€187) was outrageous even by Rio standards. To be fair we did negotiate a reduction on our bills of one night's accommodation to compensate for our various inconveniences.

However, in summary, my friend and I who are both very experienced travelers firmly agree that this was the worst hotel we have ever stayed in. Stay well clear.

P & P Ireland – December 2011.

“Great location”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 8 December 2011

Stayed there one week. Location is the biggest value of the hotel. The room equipment is quite old but sufficient. Air conditioning in the rooms was very noisy and I am not sure if it was really working. I had view to a smelly yard with noisy air conditionings so I strongly recommend you to take a room with view to Copacabana, it's worth it. Breakfast is nice but at a certain time the place was overcrowded so I had to wait for table but the waiters are doing the best to clean the tables as quickly as they can. Staff was always extremely willing to help. Metro station is about 10 mins walking.

“Great location, terrible hotel.”
1 of 5 stars Reviewed 4 December 2011

The hotel could not receive any guest. Urgent need of refurbishing. Dark walls, small bed, ridiculous bathroom, dirty doors, run-down elevator. Good breakfast, even thoug the staff spend the time talking aboutsoccer instead of doing its work. Not consistent staff. Some are friendly and some just give you attention if you ask them to intermediate ($) any kind of service, like taxi or van. I had this experience at the time of Rock In Rio. The guy in the reception pratically refused to give me information about buses, since he suggested me a very expensive van service (US$ 120.00) to go to the show.

“Excellent view, location and staff”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 26 November 2011

The room is spacious and the view on Copacabana beach is amazing!
Breakfast is good, includes a lot of fruits, juices, cheese, bread etc.
The nearest metro station is close enough, it takes approximately 10 minutes to go there. There are a small park and a market on week-end in 3 minutes by walk from hotel. There are good restaurants in walking distance. So location is great.
Front Desk staff is really good. I would like to thank all team: Ricardo, Thiago, Joao and especially Daniel for your excellent service for making my stay enjoyable!
One problem that we had is a lack of hot water. Almost every day I had a cold shower not because of my desire.
