Stayed here for three night and four days.....arrived at 2pm and asked if we could have a room facing the beach....they have about 30 of them.....the front desk were very polite and said we could have an upgraded room if we could wait for an hour....so we did and went for a walk along the beach and check the surrounding blocks out for places to eat....came back and they took our luggage up in a new elevator to room....#1001....tenth floor...super view of the beach....and quite large with king bed and tv and two chairs etc..and the balcony....could have a party out on it as was so big......ok the furniture was dated and so was the bathroom but it was clean and everything worked.....we found the hotel to be quite clean and the staff very friendly and loved it when we tried to speak Portuguese and they tried to speak English to us.....which some could do easily.....the breakfast was superb....fresh cooked eggs and sausage, many fresh fruits and buns, ham, cheese....wow...it was great.....loved eating there for the three mornings...not crowded but busy so you could see that the hotel was busy with customers....mostly South American's ....but we like the local ambiance.... would rather stay in a place like this than one full of North American's to get the local feeling....the internet was not free but if I put the laptop outside on the balcony there were free connections to be found so that was a bonus....loved the view...hard to visualize the 4km beach from the balcony....really spectacular.....the area was safe and a happening place....ate in restaurants close to the hotel...Amir go left out the door around the corner.... also a hole in the wall barbie chicken place.. Galeto .excellent...reminded us of an old diner and sit on stools..go right out the door around the corner .. La Trattoria...go right two blocks and around corner...rode the buses and subway....they were about three blocks away.....little supermarkets close also for snacks and wine and beer and water....could not believe that you could not drink the water from the taps .....the hotel warned us....thanks also for that .....check out was 12 noon and they looked after our luggage until we were picked up for transport to the airport at 6pm....had a bathroom in the lobby to use and change in.....great also......would we stay here again....in a flash....just for info....we are in our 60's....the hotel looks like they are starting to do some renos as the second elevator was starting to be upgraded.....Ricardo a great guy to talk to if you want info and he can speak English....plus others but did not write the names down...darn.....anyways have fun if you go to Rio...
