This is my second time at the Arpoador Inn. I did not see any reason to stay in a big, impersonal and chain hotel in Copacabana, Ipanema or somewhere else in Rio. Eventhough the mega hotels are also located on the main boulevard by the beach, but you're still a mile away from the actual beach. From my suite, I can hear the sound of the waves crashing into the beach, enjoy the famous sunset at Arpoador beach, and furthermore, and able to feel a glorious solitude in the midst of all the excitement of Rio!! Hey! the location of this little gem override all the glitches you may encounter at the restaurant!

Fantastic location and very friendly staff, also free wireless internet. However rooms felt in need of a good clean especially the linen and the beds were very uncomfortable. The restaurant bar has a fantastic location right beside the beach so we ate there one night, do not bother, just have drinks! The extra service charge, required in cash, which we were hit with as we left at 6am was an unpleasant and expensive surprise. Now realise not everyone pays this but at 6 am was not thinking clearly. I would not go back.

The breakfeast is good and especialy the place where you can take it, is great, since it's on the border of beach Ipanema.
The price of the restaurant are a bit high for the quality offered, but you pay the position

The Arpoador Inn is a good hotel, with excellent location. Overall the hotel is good value, but be aware of the restaurant staff and management. Breakfast was included so we couldn't avoid it, although they made sure to tell us several times that they are a separate business from the actual hotel. Very rude staff, pretending not to understand English or Spanish (although we heard them speak to other customers fluently), rolled their eyes every time we said we are hotel guests. On one occasion, when it started raining the head waiter came over and took our umbrella from our table to put it over another table!!! It seems like they don't want custom from the hotel guests, and they only want to serve people that come to eat (we were mostly down for drinks). Our mood was spoiled by the restaurant staff again and again, and I wouldn't recommend the hotel because of this.
