“Nice hotel on Copacabana beachfront great service but a bit dodgy at night”

Liked the hotel nice rooms lovely rooftop pool and bar. Breakfast had everything you could ask for and again the service was good with attentive staff. Free sunbeds on the Copacabana with lovely sands and sights. The only downside and it is not the hotel's fault is that in the evening the area is populated by prostitutes which makes you feel a bit uneasy. The Balcony Bar which is in the same block appears to be their meeting place.
Overall decent hotel is tarnished by locational factors outwith their control.

“lovely hotel great location”

We loved this hotel, had 2 nights , from our side room balcony we could see the beach and the christ the redeemer statue, if you can afford it get afront suite. glass of champagne on arrival. We got off a cruise at 0830 and were in our room at 1030, pool is small but fantastic views. The breakfasts are spectacular, the array of fruit was amazing. the staff were really great, especially after we were mugged by 4 boys in the next street in broad daylight. they got nothing as we had been warned to carry nothing except a few reals, which were in my husband hidden zipped pocket.

Room Tip: the higher the floor the better the view

“Guaranteed beach view room”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 11 February 2012

We stayed here because we wanted to be in the thick of action on Copacabana.

Location: at the end of the Copacabana strip, next to Copacabana Palace Hotel.
There is a delicious chicken restaurant on the lane next to the hotel, a few buildings down, definitely worth a visit or a few! We walked to the night market which was on the other side of the strip, it took around 30 mins one way. The souvenir shops are also a few street down towards the other end of the strip. Lots of shops and restaurants on the major street at the back of the hotel.

Rooms: our room had a view of the neighbouring housing and Cristo Redentor and a side view of the beach. The floor felt sandy but given its location being right on the beach we didn't mind. There is a little balcony in the room where you can sit and watch sunset. Modern furnishing, LCD tv. Nautical theme toileteries (very nice!) but light in the bathroom is blue (why?).

Breakfast: breakfast room overlooks the beach and offers a good selection of breakfas t spread which includes bananas and mangoes!

Service: front office staff reminded us that the hotel has a dedicated beach service right in front of the hotel. This includes 2 staff setting up lounges and umbrellas (and strategically moved it when he saw me avoided the sun as it moved during the day). Staff would also buy coconut from the kiosks dotted on the beach if you like. Definitely top notch customer sevice! We saw them tactfully covered guests' belonging which was left exposed while the owners went for a dip in the water. Towels were also provided. Definitely recommended if you stay in this hotel, people watching on Capacaba at the comfort (and safety) of your hotel is an opportunity not to be missed.

At breakfast one morning, we were greeted by a line of staff distributing feedback forms which to me this demonstrated a commitment to improve. I am most impressed!

For our last day we requested an extra early breakfast at 3AM as we had to catch an early flight and it was met with an immediate "No problem." We arrived at the restaurant to find a table set up with beautiful spread of breakfast. A lone staff had prepared us this breakfast. He spoke no English and we no Portuguese but we made sure he knew how much we appreciated his leaving home at 1.30 to be at the hotel at 2.30 and prepared us breakfast ready by 3 AM!! If I ever own my own business, he'll be on my payroll.

Amenities: we tried the rooftop swimming pool but didn't stay long as water was a bit cold. There is also a roof top gym with a nice view of Capacabana. Towel is provided.

This is a nice hotel with high customer service level but do realise this is not a flashy hotel. If you are after a nice hotel on Copacabana without burning a hole in your wallet, this hotel should be your top priority.

“Disappointed - sorry but feel we must be honest!”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed 10 February 2012

Stayed for our honeymoon in January, booked this hotel because of the positive reviews on Trip Advisor, in fact we went through 3 tour operators specifically so we could book this hotel so had high hopes!

Have never left anything but positive reviews for anywhere we've stayed or eaten so this is a first but feel we must be honest and say as we found it!

Not a warm welcome, for the 4 days we stayed there each time we walked through reception and past the concierge staff ALL kept their heads down and didn't even look up let alone smile or ask if we needed any help! We paid for a Deluxe room and yes view was great (as it should be for the money) but bathroom was unbelievably small, a broom cupboard would have been more appropriate (you could not be in there with door open as space did not allow!) and the 'bath' was like a foot bath! Hairdryer was clearly broken on arrival and despite ringing/talking to reception dailly for 4 days this did not get repaired or changed - a simple thing but in a hotel of this rating really quite unbelievable!

We knew we had a late night flight returning home so asked several times about the possiblity of extending our room our about a courtesy room to shower and change - apparently no courtesy room at all and only suggestion was to shower by the pool which was cold shower! We couldn't quite believe this so went back to reception several times (perhaps hoping a different member of staff would be more helpful) but got the same reply every time!

Roof top bar was not open on any of the nights we stayed and pool is nice but small!

Being brutally honest it was no better than an English Premier Inn with a pool and a good view, but for the money we had paid (several thousands of pounds for a week) we reasonably expected an awful lot more!

Very, very average for an awful lot of money.

“not bad, but not great - poor value”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed 9 February 2012

I paid around £150/night for this hotel in high season, and although Brazil is generally quite expensive, on reflection feel that the value isn't quite there. The main positive for us was the great location, but what I was less happy with was the very closed in feel to all of the rooms and shared areas in the hotel due to the low ceilings. The breakfast had a wide choice, but I'd have hoped for higher quality. To continue the campaign from other reviewers, the expensive wi-fi has to be made free! The room we were assigned was ok, but felt a bit worn in places and could have used some general upgrading.

We enjoyed the rooftop terrace, but the pool is very very small and less than 3 feet deep so more of a paddling affair really.

All in all, think a good 3* hotel in the UK with a much better location. I wouldn't choose it again, personally. After a few days in Rio, I think a boutique hotel in Santa Theresa might be a more rewarding choice perhaps.
