Had a wonderful stay at Casa Caminho do Corcovado over the Rio Carnival period. Helena has a lovely property which is beautifully furnished and so comfortable that myself and the other guests found it difficult to drag ourselves away from it each morning … it was certainly very difficult to say “goodbye” at the end of my week-long stay. The property is located a short walk uphill from the Corcovado tram stop, so perfectly located if you want to get to the Cristo Redentor statue early ahead of the crowds. It’s also an easy bus or taxi ride away from Copacabana, Ipanema and other attractions.
Helena and her family are the perfect hosts, keeping everything perfectly clean and tidy and providing a lovely breakfast each morning, including fresh, tropical fruit; home-baked cakes and eggs cooked to order. Helena will go out of her way to assist in finding out any information you need to help with your stay in the city, including sourcing Carnaval tickets. She even goes to the extent of writing down detailed directions with simple Portuguese phrases to help navigate your way with the local bus drivers.
She and her family also took us to a bloc party one night, to ensure that we had a proper introduction to the Rio style of partying before venturing out by ourselves. Their main concern is that you enjoy yourselves and their city. When I was worried about returning back...Had a wonderful stay at Casa Caminho do Corcovado over the Rio Carnival period. She and her family also took us to a bloc party one night, to ensure that we had a proper introduction to the Rio style of partying before venturing out by ourselves. Their main concern is that you enjoy yourselves and their city. When I was worried about returning back late at night and waking them, Helena would brush off my concerns, insisting that I just have a good time and not to worry about such things. Even when we returned from the Sambodrome at 6:30 in the morning (!!!), her son, Diogo, got up to let us in with no complaints and wouldn’t hear our apologies. He was just happy that we were enjoying ourselves and the whole Carnaval experience.
The only drawback I will mention is that the hot water was not very consistent. With the heat in Rio, you could say that there is no need for a hot shower, but it took some getting used to anyway.
Would definitely recommend Casa Caminho do Corcovado, and would definitely stay here again if I were to visit Rio again. Thank you Helena, Diogo and Valeria for such a lovely stay and for such a fantastic experience !More
