“Can't get any better than this!”

When we arrived by hotel boat from Abraão, the staff came to the pier to welcome us and helping carrying the luggage. At once I felt the special atmosphere in this mini resort. Our room was a two floor, asian inspired flat. Everything was clean and tidy, and it felt homey at once. We also had a big veranda with hammock. This together with the amazing seaview, a glass of red wine and free wireless internet.....Do I have to say more?

We took a bath down at their small, private pier. I kindly asked if they could bring my friend a caipirinha, and the answer was YES! -with a smile.

In the evening we had dinner in their VERY nice restaurant. I should have brought a girlfriend instead of a colleague, but that I can only blame myself. The restaurant was very romantic... If I have to put a finger on something, it must be the beef I ordered. It was too well done - when I ordered medium "bloody." But after all the food, and the wine recommendation from the waiter was good. And so was our tip :)
(Full dinner for two, including a botle of wine = 250 R$)

The next morning we had a relaxing breakfast, with delicious scrambled eggs, sausage mix in tomato sauce, fresh orange juice, chocolate cake (I'm very weak at vacation...) and coffee. This together with the ocean view, and the sound of the jungle in the background, made it all very exclusive.

Unfortunately Sagu resort was fully booked the next day, so we could not extend our stay. We searched for a new place in Abraão, without luck. When we returned to Sagu to pick up our luggage, we asked the manager if he could help us. We had already called our travelling agent for help as well, and everything seemed fully booked. After staying at a luxury place like Sagu, you don't dream about staying the next night at a hostel...........(!!!!) The answer from the manager was: "Please sit down and enjoy a cup of coffee, I will fix some nice alternatives for you guys." And so he did! He brought us to the next resort by hotel boat. This shows that there is still businesses in the world that understand extraordinary service, and not only big, commercial hotels wondering if your staying at an important companys expenses.....

We payed approx. 400 R$ a night at Sagu. It was worth every penny (or Reals) of it!

I will be back, but next time with a girlfriend :)

Room Tip: Any room, they are all great

“Glad we went”

Stayed here for 3 or 4 nights back in 2009. The rooms were ok, completely acceptable, but a little less modern than their newly updated website at the time. We enjoyed being just far enough away from town to get there quickly but also get away quickly. The couple running the restaurant were great and we had a wonderful meal there with well priced wine. We were very happy with our stay there and would recommend it very much.

Nice music, a glass of good wine and a beautiful sunset at looking the sea is a kind of magic you can find here.
This hotel boutique is a very good place to stay.
The rooms are very comfortables.
They have a big one, but they don`t have a swimming pool.
Breakfast is really good, including champagne to make a mimosa drink and start the day very well.
The hotel have a nice restaurant too. You need make reservation although u are in the Hotel.

Room Tip: Room #9 have Jacuzzi inside, and the view is awesome.

“Paradise.”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 11 January 2012

Ilha Grande is simply a paradise. What a wonderful island. Sagu was a terrific place to spend 3 nights in this paradise.

My favorite things about Sagu were the beauty of the place - rooms in free standing colorful cottages scatterd through the jungle on a hillside. Several small beaches are on either side of the resort and there are lush plants and flowers everywhere. It is away from town, so you have lots of privacy, but it's only a very short and very fun walk along the beach to town. Maybe 10 minutes.

There was a very nice speedboat waiting to pick us up at the ferry dock when we arrived. That was a nice touch! Our room was clean and comfortable. Don't expect "luxury," but it was nice. We had a beautiful view of the ocean from the hammock on our private veranda.

The staff at Sagu is very helpful and most speak very good English. Breakfast is a self-serve buffet with tables set by the water. There is so much food it is ridiculous. The food is very good. They also served lunch but we never ate lunch there. We did have dinner at the restaurant, Toscanelli, and it was FANTASTIC.

The location was very convenient to town and to the hiking trails over to Lopes Mendes. The front desk staff were also very helpful in setting up an excursions we wanted to do. We wanted a private boat for a day to take us to some beaches, and they did all the work. A boat showed up at 9:30 at the Sagu dock and we had the best day imaginable.

The only reason I don't give Sagu a 5 is because the rooms are fairly of basic.

Highly recommend Sagu.

“A beautiful retreat!”

My husband and I stayed at Sagu for two weeks in December. We had the most amazing holiday due to staying at the best hotel on the island. The location is incredible, the staff were so helpful and kind, and the restaurant is the best on the island. Having stayed on Ilhe Grande for two weeks we sampled a number of restaurants but kept on returning to the hotel due to the food being soooo delicious. We described Sagu as being paradise and we would love to return there again. Thank you to all the staff for making our holiday so special and memorable x x x
