During our last trip to Brazil, we decided to spend a couple of days in Buzios on a whim. As it was midweek and off season (April), we just drove there and started looking around for pousadas. After much looking around in Geriba, we decided to go for Chez Pitu, which is a vaguely familiar name, and were willing to talk the price down a little.
Make no mistake: Buzios is very expensive, and at over BRL 450 for a bite-sized room with an (amazing) sea view, this is grossly overpriced. But when other places down the road were asking for twice this amount for so-called "luxury" rooms, we decided to go for this.
Funnily enough, we got a luxury room. Rooms are ordered as standard (no view), tourist (ground floor, sea view), luxury (upper floor, sea view) and super luxury (not sure what it features. All rooms seemed to be exactly the same size. Our room was very small indeed (we had 3 bags and physically lacked space in the room for them. Walking to the other side of the room involved squeezing through a 4-inch gao between the bed and the wall. Nevertheless, the room was clean, and featured a flat-screen tv (the only way they could've fit a tv in there), minibar and bathroom.
Our rate included a nice breakfast, as well as afternoon tea and cakes. The place also has secure parking (first come first served basis), a little, sporadically staffed bar and small swimming pool. But the real bonus is just using the beautiful beach which is directly accessible from the garden. The helpful staff will lend you chairs, towels and umbrellas and will get you set up, if needed. The beautiful beach of Ferradurinha is a short (15-20 minute) walk from this point.
Chez Pitu seemed definitely to be child-friendly as there were many families with little kids roaming around. Actually, it was mostly just families with children.
There's nothing not to like in this place, but the whole experience was somewhat tainted by the fact that Buzios has just been invaded by hordes of tourists, and has become an uninteresting, crowded and overpriced place.
Still, it's an ok place; just don't expect to come here looking for paradise.
