“a great escape”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 24 January 2012

stayed at Insolito for 2 nights, it was the perfect romantic escape. the hotel is beautiful, every detail of decoration in place. The room was amazing, with big varanda and jacuzzi. the hotel´s grounds are quite big, with several pools therefore it never feels crowed, and very relaxing. they have a beach lounge that has direct acess to a very nice beach, there you can enjoy great apetizers like the heart of palm pasteis that were delicious, and just chill while looking at the great views. the service was great, everyone very careful to little details. we would definitely stay there again and this littlie piece of heaven cannot to be missed when coming to Buzios.

“Beautiful Buzios Retreat”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 11 January 2012

This is a fantastic hotel that was just what the doctor ordered after a three-hour bus ride from Rio de Janeiro. The iced lemon water and chilled champagne offered during check-in, and stunning views across Praia da Ferradura’s horseshoe bay, was the perfect start to a lovely stay. The Insolito is perched on a headland overlooking the crescent-shaped beach, and it's the perfect escape – St Tropez meets Ibiza in tropical Brazil – and most definitely Buzios’ best boutique hotel.

“The ultimate boutique hotel”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 31 December 2011

Amazing 21 room boutique accommodation - the most amazing beds! We ordered one of their mattresses. Food was excellent, great beach lounge, lots of little pools and jacuzzi's everywhere. Not cheap but well worth the money

“For those who love modern hotels”

This beautiful 20 room hotel lies just outside the main town of Buzios. It is beautifully designed and filled with interesting object d'art, art and books. Each room is uniquely decorated. Our first room was lovely (Room 2) but it was just inside a main door and off a short corridor which made it very noisy thanks to a group of American guests who communicated by shouting!

We were given an upgrade to a lovely suite with a balcony and views over the beach. It had a large bathroom in comparison with the first room and was very peaceful.

What you need to know above all here is that there are a lot of Mosquitos here so it is essential to wear a spray at all times. The hotel is not suitable for anyone with disabilities as there are lots of steep steps. There are three pools, one saline, one heated and one standard.

The food at the hotel is very good but few people were eating here during our stay so there was little atmosphere. Meals van be taken either on the deck or in the dining room which opens onto the deck. The staff are delightful and nothing is too much trouble.

The town itself is quite funky but it suffers from large groups of tourists from the cruise ships
Which results in a lot of restaurants serving poor quality food.

There are several wonderful beaches in the area but you may need to take a water taxi or hire a car or buggy to reach them. Overall a lovely place and great for a honeymoon.

“Idyllic hotel in mosquito heaven”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 21 December 2011

Lush vegetation, long sandy coves and beaches. What more could a traveller want on holiday? Well, the Insolito provides it. 3 pools, jaccuzis, steam room, sauna, spa and massages all set in an interior designers paradise. The French owner has decorated this hotel to perfection and as you sit, drinking your Mohitos, watching the sun set over the bay and seeing the colours change from yellow to orange, blue and violet, you can think of no better place on earth.

Unfortunately, so do the Mosquitos. 15 minutes unsuspectingly sitting by the salt water pool at 2pm, I got munched by over 30 Mosquitos. I know the hotel places repellent in your room, but some warning to guests that this is a major problem all day long would not go amiss.

Never the less, with an excellent chef and delightful staff who are extremely helpful, this should not put you off coming. The hotel could supply proper napkins in the restaurant as paper serviettes in a 5 star hotel are a bit naff.

The town is cute about a 5 minute taxi ride away, but expect lots of day trippers as the huge cruise ships anchor and disgorge their human cargo into the towns shops and chafes.

I know why the Brazilians flock to Buzios. You should to.

Room Tip: Bring lots of mosquito repellent and bite cream
