“The Hotel cannot, in any way, be classified as "Boutique". It is very poor and only a "Guesthouse" at best.”
Let me state what I understand by "Boutique" to describe a hotel.
At a basic level it will provide the amenities of the big chains i.e. great rooms, clean bathrooms stocked with good quality soaps, good food, great local knowledge.
In addition, to classify as boutique, there should be friendly personal service, rooms that are above the chain "average", bathrooms that have had additional care put into them, food that is fresh and cooked to order, perhaps DVD or IPod connections in rooms etc
Casa Grande Buzios fails on both levels.
The rooms are very poor. Old fixtures and fittings, cracks in walls, cracks in baths. Cleaning that barely cleans. TV's that have 4 very fuzzy channels. Rooms with no fridges. The same basic breakfast every day. A Swimming pool that is barely 5 metres long, with cracked tiles. Non-existant service.
We really could go on.
After the first night my wife and I wanted to leave. I found another hotel 5 minutes away from Case Grande that was closer to the beach, had much better rooms, better facilities, better pool etc. for 20% less than what we were charged at Casa Grande.
Unfortunately we could not leave. We had paid 50% upfront, with the remaining 50% on arrival. We talked to the management about our unhappiness and they let us move room to the best in the hotel (for no additional money). This room was much better than our first, but still not worth what we paid and the hotel was still awful.
Buzios was a great place - we know becase we spent so much time outside of the hotel.
Casa Grande has a very slick website. Please ignore it, as it in no way represents the hotel. For the money they charge there are lots of hotels near by that are so very much better.
