First off, this review is only for the rafting experience, not the lodging. However, I'll add that over the past 10 years, I have stayed in their campground and cabins. I rate them as good, but a tad pricey.
Wildman's, at least in my experience, has always been a well run operation----from the rafting, to the friendly staff, to the nice Northwoodsy feel of the property, to the weekend music entertainment....... This year, however, was just a quick rafting trip over Fathers Day Weekend.....
OK, now for the rafting review... The Pesh was the highest it's been all year. That said, due to an ongoing drought, it still was lower than it should be in springtime. Nevertheless, it was still a good run. However, this trip with Wildman's was a little disappointing----first off, our guide did just a quick n dirty safety briefing which was noticeably less than in previous trips.... Second, it seems like Wildman's has been cutting their trips short (meaning, taking out much sooner than before, thus losing out on one big rapid and about 1/4-1/2 mile of continuous whitewater) in recent years. They tell me it's when the water is low, they do this. Yet, one of the guides told me they NEVER take out at the lower end anymore. Granted, it sounds like conflicting info, but if it's true, I may have to consider other area outfitters for a more complete river experience...... Also, Wildman's funyaking fee was $34, about $10 more than Kosir's Rafting, which BTW, takes out farther downstream......
In conclusion, Wildman's is still a decent outfitter and worthy of going with. In fact, the outfitters located on the river are all good...MUCH better than the ones on the Wolf...... However, the Peshtigo, like MOST Midwest whitewater rivers are precipitation-dependent. No rain or snow, no (read: LOW) water in the river. That said, IMO, it's not worth doing the Pesh if the river is low during normal summer flow or drought conditions........

The information in this review is for the most part correct. For a majority of the rafting season the things mentioned become a benefit to our guests as explained below.
Due to a lack of communication this customer did not get to run the lower part of the river as desired. Here at Wildman Ranch we run the full length of the river at higher water levels. At low water we will allow anyone to run the lower part of the river if requested at the time of the trip. As a result of the miscommunication the customer was given a free trip good for any time this year or next year.
There are reasons for the things mentioned in the review. At lower water levels Wildman Ranch has a private take-out located on the Ranch property. This does indeed shorten the trip by over 1.5 miles. Much of this section of river is very difficult to get through at lower water levels and can take over an hour to get through. As with most of our other activities we choose to end our trips on a high note. Running Horserace rapid provides the customer with a great memory of the river. Our private take-out allows people to run Horserace rapid as many times as they would like, the alternative being another boulder garden downriver.
We have indeed shortened our safety briefing before our summer trips. Our summer safety briefing highlights the critical information needed by the customer in order to have fun and stay safe on the River. The spring or high water safety briefing does include more information necessary at certain water levels and is therefore longer in duration. Providing people with unnecessary information only clouds what is important. I'm actually glad someone took note of the changes.
The pricing on our trips is indeed a few dollars more than what you will pay at other rafting companies. Those few dollars will be the last thing on your mind once you finish the trip. The difference in price accounts for the difference in location, equipment, guide staff, trip size, and overall satisfaction. We strive to provide people with an exceptional experience. If there is a situation where that isn't the case we will make sure to handle it in a way that is satisfactory to the customer.
