“Had a GREAT time at the Wildman!!!!”

Clean, clean, clean, cute, and cozy is the best way to describe the cabin we got! We scheduled a weekend getaway to go rafting and ATV over 4th of July weekend. Scott, Anthony, Cheryl and the rest of the staff were EXCELLENT in ensuring we had a good time and stay at Wildman. We got in on Thursday night to a CLEAN cabin. Honestly, this is the first time I've ever stayed at a cabin (I'm more of a resort type) and was impressed by how cute and clean the cabin was! Our cabin overlooked the Peshtigo river and the breeze and sound of the river was so relaxing. Friday, we went for a 3 hr ATV ride (another thing that I've never done in my life, but thoroughly enjoyed!) in the AM and rafted on the Peshtigo in the PM. On Saturday, we relaxed in the AM and went rafting in the PM on the Menominee (EXCELLENT!!!).

Overall, I'm definitely looking forward to coming back! We had a great time, great weather, and stayed at a great cabin. I HIGHLY recommend Wildman!!!

“Great Fun for the whole family”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 5 July 2011

We just did the white water rafting/kayaking on the Pestigo River with my family (2 kids, 10 and 14) and my parents (75 and 78). Ken, who I believe is also the owner, was wonderful ahead of our adventure explaining to my mother and my 10 year old daughter what to expect and recommend the best type of vessel for their comfort. I ended up in a small raft with my mother and daughter (not the two strongest paddlers by any definition) and my son and father ended up in the open, catamaran type kayaks. We visited at a time after lots of rain so the river was up well above normal and delivered us rapids that ranged from 1s to 3s.

The whole trip was premised on my daughters desire to go white water rafting and the thrill that she was anticipating. She was not let down! The trip was terrific, the guides were great and provided great on-water support when it was needed (we got stuck on a large rock and they got us free) and my dad (78) was thrown from his boat in one of the class 3 rapids and they were on him right away to insure he didn't get beat up too bad.

I can highly recommend this for a family adventure. I do recommend that all be competant swimmers, especially if going on the single person kayaks. The rafts provide a safer trip as one is much less likely to end up in the water.

It was a ton of fun. We will absolutely return for more great adventures. Maybe next time we will hit the Menominee River further to the north for some rougher water but in a large 8-person guided raft.

While we didn't camp, I did walk the campgrounds. They are nicely wooded and interspersed with small cabins (also available). While nicely wooded and next to the river, they are not secluded. The bath house was desent and typical of most such campgrounds.

Overall experience was fantastic and I would highly receommend it to others.

“Great family trip!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 24 June 2011

I was looking for an active vacation for the family. This was our first time at the Wildman Ranch and we had an amazing time. The cabin was clean, cozy and had an amazing view of the river. You can hear the river run from the bedroom while you sleep. We were able to make a campfire right off the river bank which was fun for the kids. The activities were excellent. We rafted, kayaked, fished, hiked, paint balled, and did the ropes course. The guide (Cliff) was knowledgeable, friendly, enthusiastic, and made us feel safe. The area is secluded and beautiful. We will definitely return.

“Wish we could have stayed longer!”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 4 February 2011

I was looking for a different type of getaway for "the guys" at work and thought that snowmobiling would be perfect. After feverishly searching for a resort that also rents snowmobiles, I came upon Wildman Whitewater Ranch. I couldn't find much information on it, other than what's listed here on TripAdvisor, so I took a gamble...wow did it pay off!
Although it was 5 1/2 hours from Chicago, it was a quick drive and well off the beaten path.
The "Chalet" was huge, had room for 13, so 6 of us slept more than comfortably. It has a full sized kitchen with everything you need, 5 BR, 2 Baths, fireplace, wrap around balcony, BBQ grill, fire pit, DIRECTV, VCR and DVD player. The radiant heating system took a bit to get used to, but it works like a charm.
In the morning, we met with Ken who took us on our snowmobile trip. At first, we weren't too happy about having a guide take us out, but then I realized that it's been 30 years for me and the other 5 had never been snowmobiling. We then decided that it wouldn't be the end of the world to drag this guy along with us.
It wasn't until we were well on our journey that we were able to fully appreciate his presence. Not only did he keep us from getting lost, he also ensured that the trails that we took met our comfort level and abilities. He also helped us out of a few jams...
There is no doubt that we will be back for future trips and we're also looking forward to visiting this summer to try out the other adventure activities.
**We are also trying to put together a couples trip, so I'd recommend it for either**

“I concure........”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 29 September 2010

Written, but saved [for the minimum 3 months] just after Wildman's Owner's/Management response.............

"I concur with the Owner's/Management's response to my review. We had discussed the issues described in my post, but only after I posted my review. I was grateful Wildman's offered a future trip free of charge.....a nice gesture to make things right. Thus, the better "Service" and "Value" ratings above.

All in all, Wildman's is a good company and we will continue to visit them for future ww rafting trips."

UPDATE:
Just returned from a rafting trip with Wildman and they made good on their offer of a free trip. Due to heavy rainfall----->high water, i decided to do some late season rafting. What a great decision THAT was! The trip was my all time best on the Peshtigo River and the guides were excellent. The river was very high, which made for a very exciting run.... Class III and IV much of the way and I can count maybe 3 rock that we hit;-) The fall colors were just icing on the cake! In addition, Wildman, unlike the other area outfitters, made the wise decision to stay open and offer late season rafting trips. The others seem to close after Labor Day.....

In conclusion, they are a good company and I recommend using them for your rafting and other Northwoods adventures. And again, this river is precipitation dependent----if no rain, that means low water. So, if you have really high expectations, I suggest hitting this river during the spring runoff, or after heavy rains, like I just did......
