When I saw there was a Hilton in Belém and checked the lowest rates in the website, I almost couldn't believe what I was seeing. So I checked tripadvisor reviews and, after reading so many negative opinions, I chose to call the hotel.
The staff assured me there were reformed apartments in the upper floors (executive rooms, more expensive, for sure) and I made the reservation.
Getting there, the hotel is old (but well preserved), and the wooden elevators can tell you all, but the executive rooms are brand new, but the cost-benefit relation is still bad. We stayed in a Mercure Aparments in Brasilia a few months ago, that was twice as big for half the price, and had a smaller TV than Hilton's, but at least had a kitchen.
Some services like the morning paper by your door (that wasn't there everyday, but still was fine) and a separate room for breakfest in the executive floor are interesting, but anyway it's expensive for what was offered.
The location, on the other hand, is excellent. It's placed in the Republic Square, in front of Teatro da Paz (Peace Theater), the most important historic building, that was on reform.
If it wasn't for the tripadvisor reviews, I would have had a terrible experience in one of the old rooms, like one guest that was checking out just when we checked in, that was loudly complaining with the manager about the room.
