“Over priced”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed 25 November 2011

Located in front of the Theatro de la Paz, it is great location.
Rooms are old, decoration if any is dull.
restaurant is ok
pool with concrete floors and plastic chairs is not a romantic place
a lot of waiting for checking in or out.
laundry is not doing a good job.
Around a lot of Posadas or small hotels are lovely and clean.
I wish that I knew it before

“Good hotel in a good location”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 29 September 2011

The hotel is clean, rooms of a nice size and a restaurante that has a very good fish. The prices at the restaurant are about the same or cheaper than others in town. Good breakfast.
It is fair, Probably the best or second best in Belém.
The people at reception are able and willing to help you with tours and restaurants.

Room Tip: Ask for a room facing praça da republica. Mine was not

“1 class in Belem???”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 30 April 2011

Well its "the" Hilton in Belem.
and its difficult to find a good hotel in Brasil or Belem which meet european or international standard. thats for sure. But dont understand why? The Hilton in Belem ask more or less international prieces. In europe or the staats guest would run away.
the location downtown is good - every place is easy to reach.
the room have the ambiente of a 3star hotel. 450 Brls per night is a much to much for this.. you get a very good hotel in London, Paris or Rom for this amount of money.
the Poolside is poor and the restaurants have the influence from a hospital.
dont go

“not a real Hilton, bad rooms, bad internet: Like a bad motel 6”
1 of 5 stars Reviewed 30 April 2011

Although the sign on the building says Hilton, it’s nothing like any Hilton. This hotel is a basic hotel, more like a Motel 6 or other low quality hotel.
The lobby, restaurant and pool area are not bad. They are not great, but it’s ok. The location, like the Crown Plaza, is good; right in the center and close to the docks area with restaurants.
The problem lies in the rooms; they are small, have limited facilities and don’t have much space for anything. The floor is a cold tile, the furniture is basic and old. The bathroom is really bad, small and not functioning properly. The shower is low, so that the water gets everywhere, including on the ceiling where it then drops on you again. Many things are kinda rigged, like the hairdryer.
The internet is very unreliable and slow. It can be down for a few minutes or half a day and this downtime happens frequently every day. The speed is not sufficient to place audio calls, let alone video calls. Emails might download if you are lucky.
There is no benefit for Hhonors Diamond status customers. On my last few visits, although they had my correct number (I asked for them to tell me the number they had for me on my reservation) the check-in staff did not recognize me as Diamond, did not tell me about any benefit (like free internet), nor talked about an upgrade, breakfast or anything. In fact, they did not mention the rooms, breakfast or internet at all.
So again, I got the basic room. Not that this is important, because on my first previous visit, I got a standard room also. Once I was unpacked, an employee came and told me that they had figured out I was Diamond and that they had upgraded my room. So I packed up and we went one floor up, to the new room. It turned out to be exactly (100%) the same room, just on the executive floor. The only difference between the regular floor and the executive floor, is a sign on the executive floor that says “executive floor”.
The gym is very old. The equipment is in bad shape and not up to date. It’s a mix of very old and old pieces of equipment. The treadmill is difficult to use because the speed fluctuates, making it easy to loose balance and fall. In addition, the treadmill is small and narrow. The one staff person does not interact with hotel guests, just his friends. When I went to the gym, there was no AC. So, in the middle of the tropics, working out in a gym that is hot. You get the idea.
In case you ask why I have been going back, it’s only the few times that the client was at this hotel. On other occasions I’ve been staying at the Crown Plaza, close by. The Crown Plaza is a new, modern, better facilitated and overall a real Crown Plaza. It might be a bit more expensive, but you get a proper quality hotel.
My co-workers are almost Diamond members, they share the same concerns about this hotel, it is not just me.
In short, don’t expect a Hilton at the Hilton Belem, expect a motel 6.

Room Tip: Stay at the crown plaza

“Save your money - nothing worth staying here for”
1 of 5 stars Reviewed 22 April 2011

Whilst not a premium hotel brand you come to expect certain standards from a Hilton, especially being told in the Lonely Planet that it is the best hotel in Belem. Well, I dread to think what the others are like!

To start with, this hotel is tired, dated & serves the least impressive food I have tasted in a while. However the most offensive part of our stay was by far the staff, easily the most unhelpful I have encountered travelling around Brazil. We were made to feel like they were doing us a huge favour when we chased our drinks as we finished our starters in the restaurant.

We popped to the ´spa´on arrival, thinking a relaxing massage or pedicure, fancying a relaxing treat. Having been to a fair few spas I can safely say this is a hair dressers, presumably with a back room, however the staff were so busy doing their own hair/nails they were too busy to fit us in....interesting business concept!

However the biggest gripe came when they presented us with a bill for additional drinks as we checked out. Despite explaining very nicely, as our taxi waited to take us to the airport, that these drinks should not be on our bill, the receptionist became very aggressive in his manner to the extent we ended up paying as we worried what his actions would be if we did not.

So - extremely tired rooms (oh did I mention the stained sheets?), very rude staff, a ´spa´too busy to serve customers and food better served in McDonalds....save your money, look elsewhere.
