We travelled to Caracas by bus from santa marta colombia. We spent 2 days before flying to Quito, Ecuador. While searching hotels we soon realised how expensive every hotel was going to be.We booked this hotel on price. We read lots of info on this and other sites re safety/currency problems in venezuela so were a little concerned. We changed our cops at the border crossing on the venezuela side(the colombian side offer very bad exchange rates) and got about 7.5/8 bolivars to the dollar. We then paid the hotel in local currency so it only cost us £50 for 2 nights(about $70) but the hotel was pretty shabby at best.It is safe, as you are totally caged in needing a buzzer pressed at reception to open the front door then a buzzer to open the gate to the street(felt like a prison) the rooms are less than basic, needing a real overhaul. The shower was pretty cold and the bathroom poor.We had a window overlooking a school, and kids started to turn up at 6am.Yes 6am and by 7am it was very noisy. So all in all pretty cheap but pretty awful.Would like to say something nice about the place but that would be less than truthful. The staff were less than average as well.Free wi fi was available but no reception in the room but ok slow reception in lobby. If you like a bit of political propaganda listen to school assembly at about 7.15am in the school playground, its quite eye opening.
