We unfortunately stayed at this hotel for 1 night on our way home to Natal after we had been travelling for 2 days from my wifes parents in the south of the state of Para.
I enquired the cost for a room for the 3 of us (me, wife and 3 year old son) to be told that our son had to sleep with us because they were unable to fit a single bed in the room. This was ok but then the lady asked for identification for all of us, something I have not come across before.
After going back to the car to discuss this with my wife we all returned to check in but we were dealt with by another person, a man this time. He asked for my wifes and my ID and then asked for payment which we gave. Then the original lady came over to the man and said 'make sure you ask for ID for the little boy' and looked us up and down as if to say 'I told you!' We said we would return downstairs with his ID, since it was in a suitcase.
When we got to our room (with no assistance from hotel staff!) my wife opened the door to find that it was occupied (the person was in the bathroom and luckily didn't come out naked!)
I went back down and saw the lady at reception - she said her colleague was on the way up with card keys to a new room. I gave her the original cards and she gave them back to me, telling me the number of our new room. I had to force them back to her telling her that these keys were for the room that was occupied, and it finally sunk in!
When we finally got into our room we thought we would get a cold drink and looked in the fridge - it was empty! Then we looked at the info card and next to the heading 'Minibar' was written 'anything you require you can get at the bar downstairs'. It was then that it dawned on us that there was no room service available either!
We have not stayed at any proper hotel where room service or minibar are unavailable and at 8:30 at night after driving all day the last thing we wanted to do was to go and find a restaurant, especially as our 3 year old was getting tired, but this is what we had to do.
Other things - no cover over the electrical socket where the tv was plugged in (dangerous for a 3 yr old), the toilet seat and cistern lid were both the wrong size, there was a crack in the sink bowl and to have a shower I had to bend my knees since the shower head was lower than I am tall!.
Needless to say we will never darken their doors again - this is a hostel pretending to be a hotel and is a disgrace to the IBIS brand!
