Hotel Studio do Carmo is located on the outskirts of the old city. I would recommend asking for the room that overlooks the old church. Staff were helpful (TAM lost our luggage) but did recommend that we went to Paraguay for a day trip to buy cheap electronics which was a real waste of time.

I stayed at this hotel with my 2 friends during Carnival in March of this year. Francesca was lovely and great. She answered all of our questions, and even took us around the area herself.

The hotel itself is clean, spacious, and located on a quite street. Even during Carnival, we did not hear much from our room. The best part of the hotel was the breakfast! Every morning, we were welcomed with a huge platter of fruits, juices, yogurts, granola, pastries, and breads. It was delicious and free. Another excellent part of the hotel was the free wireless that was fast and did not drop service once during our three day stay there.

Regarding Carnival tickets for certain events, they set up that for us as well. We tried doing it ourselves one night, and it ended up costing more than the hotel charged us. Yes, they mark up the prices a bit, but it is still cheaper than taking a taxi to the mall to pick up your abada (your shirt which is your ticket) and another taxi back to the hotel. Plus, it is more convenient since you don't have to leave the area. This was a help to us as well.

All in all, I would recommend this hotel to anyone traveling to the area.

My friends and I stayed for 3 nights during Carnaval and had a wonderful time. Francesca (who speaks good english) and her staff were incredibly helpful and friendly to 4 gringos who had never been to Salvador before. As others mentioned, the breakfast served in the room is fantastic.

I also think that a pousada such as this one is a better way to experience Salvador (especially the Pelourinho) than a standard hotel. Our room had a balcony that opened up onto the street, and gave us a feel for the sights and sounds of daily life in the neighborhood. The room itself was spacious and very comfortable to relax in after many hours attending Salvador's famous street carnaval...

We had a great stay at Hotel Studio do Carmo - location is perfect, right in the heart of old city. Francessca told us where to eat and walk around that was safe and the rooms are gorgeous. Spacious, clean and fantastic views!!! Highly recommend this Hotel - breakfast is brought to your room which was great and very homely!! Thanks for such a great stay!!!
