“Fair, Clean and in the best point of Salvador”

I stayed there for 6 days, the staff was very helpful, there is a great breakfast, One can eat in the morning (6 to 10 am) and don't feel hungry before 3 pm. My room was not with ocean view, but the kind manager did this upgrade to me for free, because the hotel, he said was a little empty, so, i stayed with a balcony in front of the sea.
The pool is small, but it is ok to refresh. Barra beach doesn't seem to clean to me, despiste the city government says that is good for bath, so, i do prefer the pool with ocean view.
There is a parking lot, i payed R$8/day to park the rented car there, and i didn't need to drive to there, the hotel staff puts the car inside and brings to me when i needed.
Bad things: i found out 2 or 3 mosquitoes in my room. I killed them by myself...
There were a problem with the refrigerator: when you got out, took your key card with you, the refrigerator turned off automatically. So, i could never have cold drinks when i returned from the beach. The prices of the beverages in the frigobar was very expensive (R$4 for a small water bottle), and so was the price of the internet in the lobby: R$10/hour). There is free wireless in the room, but i don't take computers when travelling.
I liked the hotel a lot, and i would return.

“outdated, but in a good location”

This hotel is conveniently located just across the street from Farol da Barra's beach, next to restaurants and a walking distance from a mall. The staff was very polite and the people who work in the restaurant were great.
That being said, I should also point out that it's an old building, with a strong smell due to the proximity to the sea (my room had a view, but at the same time windows and floor were always sticky). The walls were very thin, and I was awaken at 3 or 4 am by a group of loud neighbours (can't blame the hotel entirely though. The guys were literally screaming to each other).
I would recommend this hotel only if you get a very good rate, otherwise it is just not worth it.

“Beachfront hotel is a great location ... but poor front desk service and bad smell in lobbies didn't impress”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed 6 June 2010

- The front desk was not friendly and spoke very limited English. While, we were pretty much a private group of two people, he spoke to our Tour Guide in Portuguese and didn't even smile or bother to greet us. I thought - what a PIG !
- In my opinion, the bell hop should get the employee of the year award. He seemed to literally work 24/7 and do everything. He brought our bags to the room. He delivered room service to us well after midnight. He seemed to always be on the job smiling.
- Completely, different from the front desk that looked sloppy and were extremely unhelpful. It took forever to make a simple order on the room service menu since the front desk was very 'dumb' about trying to understand our limited Portuguese and didn't understand English. I have never had this issue in any hotel and I've stayed in other hotels in Brazil before.
- They try to nickel and dime you on the internet and it takes forever to boot up. Then, I notice the timer is also set faster than the real time - so completely robbing you.
- The lobby/corridor in front of the hotel room smelled foul like bad vinegar.
- The hotel room was very simple and the floor didn't seem very clean.
- The breakfast was ok with lots of variety. If you are lucky, there are some seats on the enclosed patio and there is a nice view of the beach.
- The location is great, if you are spending a lot of time at the beach and don't care about service.
- This hotel had no store or inside tips on buying jewellery, which sounds bizarro in Brazil.
- I wouldn't go back to this hotel and I think it's the worse one I've stayed at in Brazil.

“Right across from the beach!”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 18 May 2010

We stayed at this hotel for 5 days and for the money, it's a pretty great place to stay. The best part is the location, right across from the beach. Salvador has many beaches, but most aren't the type of places to stay. This small stretch of beach is between the Christ statue and the old lighthouse, and is a place hosting many surfers at pretty much all hours of the day. Swimming is only allowed at one end of the beach where it is protected by some rocks, otherwise the good-looking lifeguards will warn you not to go in the water past your waist. The neighborhood around the hotel was probably very high end about 15 years ago, with some really nice little boutiques and restaurants right nearby. There's a great little gelato shop right across the street, and several banks with ATMs right nearby. There's a small upscale grocery around the corner. The hotel has a bar and small lounge, as well as a breakfast room with a view over the water. The pool is small, but it has a see-through wall so it is possible to swim while looking at the beach. Unfortunately, the road between the hotel and the beach is rather busy, but it does mean that there are a number of buses so you can get just about anywhere in town (including a direct bus to the Pelourinho district--unfortunately, that's too far from this hotel to walk there). The rooms here are of decent size, with balconies and TVs and showers with great "rain" style showerheads. There is wireless internet, and two computers are available in the lobby (the prices for internet are a little on the high end, but there's a modern gas station right up the street with a very cheap internet cafe inside). The breakfast is large with lots of food from eggs and sausages to all kinds of cakes and pastries, breads, and fruits. They serve different fruit juices including coconut water, and they will make omelets to order. If you like the view, half of the rooms look out over the water, and the other half don't. The rooms with the view cost more, but it might be worth it. That view is amazing! Oh, and the staff could not have been more helpful, even in the middle of the night.

“very basic”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 11 May 2010

We chose this hotel as it was just in the area we like to spend time in - however would not stay here again - very basic. The staff however could not have been nicer, and upgraded us to a high floor sea view room - not recommended if you want a quiet night sleep. Windows not soundproofed - windy and the sea was very noisy, plus when it rained water came in through the bottom, which happened throughout the hotel everywhere....when it rains it rains hard in May. The room was very basic - the bed pillows had a terrible musty smell which despite changing - all had them - had to sleep with a towel wrapped over them. Breakfast for me was very disappointing unless you like local food however my partner is Brazilian and loved it!
Had a look at a couple of other hotels however they are all of a poor standard - had a look at a room at the Othon which was - very dated as we found on our last visit when we stayed at the supposedly 5*Tropical Baha which was closed this time maybe for refurbishment....
