We stayed at the hotel in July 2011- As others have mentioned here, the views are stunning, the amenities modern, clean and elegant, and the service was without rival. The staff, especially the evening crew, were engaging, classy, fun and very helpful. The most memorable experience that any traveler will have at this hotel will be the time spent with the fine people who work here. Most of the staff is multilingual, which is a great comfort for non-native speakers.
For families, the hotel's breakfast offers something for all tastes, and the price is right- free with your stay. The restaurant's dinner menu is upscale, though the prices are higher than I had expected- anyone with a culinary sense of adventure should be dining out further afield, but for a late-night dinner the service and quality of the food was fine.
The desk staff are knowledgeable guides to the area- they will get you to the places you should see, and can advise you on where it is safe to visit at night, something that can't be taken for granted in Salvador. You certainly do not want to go out of the hotel's grounds at night on foot- the neighborhood is dangerous at night for the unwary.
As my family and I explore Brazil on our annual vacations, we've agreed that Salvador and the Othon Palace will be part of our itinerary from now on. What a pleasure it was to visit.
