I decided to stay there at last moment and did a walk in. Why I do not know, the front desk staff did everything to make it absolutely clear that I was not welcome. I took them more than half an hour to check me in. They must have a very sophisticated IT system: at a certain point, 3 staff were pointing at the screen and tapping the keyboard. On check out, the bill was not correct and again it took 3 persons and a lot of time to get it right. One of the most incompetent and arrogant front desk staff I have ever come across.
My room was on a high floor and had a fantastic ocean view, absolutely stunning! To Brazilian standard, the room was well decorated and everything worked quite nicely.
The breakfast is mediocre and the coffee quality is substandard for Brazil.
One night, we booked a table at the Pestana Camro covento restaurant, another Pestana hotel in the centre, close to Pelourinho. On arrival,, we were greeted with the same indifference. They did not have our reservation and we even left without ordering. Although the restaurant was empty, they did not care and they were visibly relieved, looking forward to a quiet evening without the nuisance of any guests ordering things.
To summarize, no one cares and I think Pestana has a serious staff problem in Salvador.
Maybe they can get some people over from their well-run hotel in Natal to train the staff.
