“Disappointed. Definitely not a 5 star, overpriced and worn out”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed 2 February 2012

The pictures and 5 start rating can deceiving, but don't let yourself be mistaken.
I just spend 4 nights wiht my family, and my conclusion is this is a poorly managed hotel that is not worried about customer service and satisfaction.

This is likely a 20 year old hotel that hasn't seen renovation since then.
It is indeed a big hotel with 200 rooms, beach-front and has a nice pool. But that was all.
There are no activities for kids, the playground is ridiculous and the kids place is depressing. It has just a 14" TV and a few tables, no toys, I would never leave my daughter in there.
The elevator is old, small and hot, and watch for your head and arms because the door closes violently, I was hit in the arms once and it hurts.
The rooms are larger than average, with two balconies from where I could see the ocean.
There were two single beds placed toghether instead of a queen size, the least that I would expect for a 5 star hotel. The beds kept separating at night, and in the there would be a feet between them. I asked for another bed/room at the front-desk, but my request was not addressed.
There were two air conditioning units in the room, those new "split" type that worked quite odd, at somtimes the room was freezing and at others it was an oven. And they made so much noise that would wake me at night.
There are bars around the hotel that play live music until 2 AM. I was so tired that I could sleep even with the noise, but I wouldn't recommend it if you are on a business trip. There is no noise insulation in the room.
There is a minibar with overpriced drinks and snaks. A bottle of water would cost US$ 3, a beer US$ 3.5 and a cereal bar another US$ 3. A bottle of water with double the size costs US$0,50 at a grocery store...
The bathroom was large enough and had a good shower, which makes be believe it was recently renovated. There are towels to use in the room and others that could be taken to the pool or beach, and all were very worn out, thin and some had holes in them. Again, surprise to see this in a 5 * hotel.
There is a safe in the room, but they will charge you a daily fee of US$1.50 to use it (?) which I never seen in any hotel in world, and I traveled everywhere.

Although the hotel advertises free WIFI, there was no signal in my room.
Actually there was signal at the lobby but I was not able to connect at any of the 5 days I spent there, which was a major frustration. When I complained at front-desk, all I hard is "Yea, Internet is not very good today" !

The gym has two threadmills, two bycicles and some free weights, but has no air conditioning, which makes it practicaly impossible to use it, given the heat of Maceió.
I would rather just walk by the beach front boardwalks.
The pool is large, but still crowded for the number of guests. It is actually the only entertainment available at the hotel, for adults and kids. My daughter enjoyed it, of course.
There is a bar and restaurant by the pool, and service was ok, although overpriced.

The beach is just across the street, but it is dirt and polluted, as all beaches in Maceió.
The hotel doesn't have beach service, like chairs, umbrellas or a bar, so you need to rent yourself a chair with people that offer this by the beach. Again, not what I'd expect of a 5 *....
If you want to spend the day at a clean and nice beach where you can enter the water, you will have to leave town and go a few KM North or South of Maceió.
The good is there many bars and restaurants by the beach that offer inexpensive food and drinks, and live music at some of them.

Overall, I was not happy with stay, I expected much more from a 5 star hotel, I expected a newer and cleaner hotel and expected more for US$250 a day.
I do not recommend this hotel and would not come back.

“Do not recommend this hotel”

I wentered the room on the 2nd floor , it was a big room , however the noise of amachine on the first level was unberable. After I complained , they moved me to an upper level and distant from the noisy machine.
I didn't find the room as clean as I am used to in my trips.
If you want a large room for a family, you'll get there.

“Overpriced”

Excellent location, many good restaurants at walking distance. That's the only pro.
Poor room quality, bad old bed and the pillow stinks. Unacceptable for a USD 200 hotel. There's also an extra USD 2/day for the use of the safe.
