I have stayed in just about every hotel in Crystal City for business purposes. They all have the good points and bad points. The Crown Plaza is my preferred hotel for several reasons. The rooms have been updated relatively recently and pretty good furnishing and beds. The linens at Crown Plazas are much better than other Holiday Inns and comparable to Marriott and Hilton. The water pressure is very good at this hotel even on the top floors. The staff is pretty friendly expecially to Priority Club Gold members. The breakfast is decent with good orange juice. The eggs are scrambled though and there is no omelet station. The pick up from the airport was very efficient on this trip and the van drivers are quite nice. The pub is slighlty above average from other hotel pubs. The food is average but they have specials on some nights. The beer selection includes Old Dominion which is a local brew.
The biggest negative about this hotel is the location. it is not directly attached to the underground. To get to the Metro station you have to walk about 7 minutes, of which, one block is above ground and subject to the weather. It is also a about a six block walk to the southern end of Crystal City where most of the better restaurants are located. The view from the hotel is mostly blocked by other buildings as well so you can't see the monuments.
My lower score for value would be true of any hotel in Crystal City. The rates are very high due to the business and tourism in this area. Hotel rates of 200 and up are common in this area. I find it hilarious that our government can't control hotel rates in DC even though most of the customers travel on government business.
