The building was built in the 80's and apparently nothing else was done to keep it up. The carpet has stains that are probably 20 years old and all the cabinets and doors need some oiling. All the kitchen appliances and utensils are of very poor quality, including the knives that really don't cut anything!
The beds are old and caved in the middle.
The gym has very little to offer and machines are also from the 80's (the ones that actually work). There are cables hanging everywhere making it a pretty depressing room.
I think the worst though is that it's located in front of the highway and the windows don't have double glass so it's really noisy plus, the shades are so old and out of shape that they don't really close properly and a lot of light comes in at night.
On the whole, if you are staying for a short period of time, it's a good place for the location but if you are staying for over a month, I would not pick this place.

For an extended stay in the DC area, the Oakwood at Crystal City can't be beat. The location is excellent. The Crystal City Metro station can be accessed underground without even going outside the building. Additionally, there is plenty of secure parking on site, and it's easy to get in and out of the garage with a car.

As indicated by another reviewer, the bathrooms and kitchens are probably due for renovation soon, but the living room and bedroom areas are updated and fantastic. This was probably one of the most comfortable beds of anyplace I've stayed in years. I was on the 12th floor, and never heard any street noise or noise from other rooms. Oakwood staff are incredibly helpful and courteous.

This property is connected to the Crystal City Shops and Metro. You can get to the Metro station without having to go outside. It is very convenient to get to DC, the Pentagon, Reagan National Airport, etc. The Pentagon City Mall is within walking distance.

The rooms are due for upgrading, esp. the kitchen and bathroom. The living and bedroom areas had newer furnishings. The carpet looked fairly new. Rooms receive once a week cleaning service. There is a workout facility, free newspapers, coffee and doughnuts and cookies in the lobby, and garaged parking. Like everywhere else in a city, street noise can be heard in the rooms, but we never heard tv or other noise from other rooms.

Oakwood requires a minimum 30-night stay, but was very flexible after that and allowed us to shorten our stay with one day's notice.

One of the best things about this Oakwood was the friendliness of the staff. They seemed eager to make the stay pleasant and were very easy to work with.

As of March 1, 2007, the Oakwood now takes pets. Our dog was the first pet there. We were charged $5/day to keep her there. There are breed restrictions, but no size restriction which is a great plus in an area where many facilities restrict the size. There is a large park a couple of blocks away with ample space to walk dogs.
